Credit Bereaus think I am DEAD! Please advise...

I applied for a credit card a week ago and was denied. No big deal, until I get a letter in the mail today listing the reason. "CREDIT BUREAU REPORTS APPLICANT IS DECEASED".
So all afternoon I have been trying to get ahold of someone at TransUnion, Experian or Equifax to help me straighten this out, and I cannot get ahold of a real person. It so friggin infuriating!
So, does anyone have a number for the credit agencies that will let me talk to a real person?
Also, has anyone ever had this problem? If so what did you do?

Thanks in advance. I will be applying for a mortgage in a few months so I have to get this straightened out.

I don't know if this is such a bad thing, unless you are trying to buy a house.

But, it is very difficult to get a rep for one of those companies and even more difficult in getting something fixed. Just keep trying the numbers you have and hit 0, maybe for a customer service rep, when you get the main menu.

LOL Maybe you have the wrong SS number? Happened to a friend of mine, hers was mixed up with someone else's and it fubared all sorts of things.

Yeah, it could be a SSN mix up. Happened to my sister a couple of weeks back when she refinanced and got declined. Apparently, Discover fvcked up and put down a bunch of delinquency on her credit history because she had similar SSN to another person. They got it taken care of fairly quickly after she told them the next call will not be from her but her lawyer.

Actually you have to pay EXTRA TAX when you die. You could be imprisoned for not paying death tax. That would REALLY be hilarious.

Good one there! Credit Bureaus usually report that someone is deceased when Social Security Death Benefits are paid out for that person...

I did some searching on Google.com and the 2nd link I found has some information although not totally pertaining to your situation, Fool.com

Credit bureau's need everything in writing, so here's what I would do:

1) Make 3 photocopies of your decline letter.
2) Mail a 1 page letter explaining in detail who you are (everything about you, name, ssn, dob, employment, married or not, birthplace, EVERYTHING short of your wang size) and that you are NOT deceased.
3) Mail the 3 letters via USPS certfied with return receipt so you know they received it.

and/or order a 3-in-1 credit report from all 3 agencies for $34.95

Thanks for the advice. I already tried to get a credit report but it doesn't work, probably because I am dead.
