And GM Mastercard for 5% rebate toward a new GM, which I buy every 5-6 years for up to $3,000 additional off.

I like my USAA Mastercard... %1 taken off entire credit card bill....every month..... (note: Only military vets and direct family can get one) ....
Do you know where I can get more info on this? My dad was drafted during the Vietnam war, discharged honorably, so I assume I qualify as his son.
Thanks.
edit: oops, formatting.

Anyone use the BankOne Free Cash Rewards Platinum Visa card? Has the 1% cash back and pays out faster than CitiBank so seems like a good choice unless I'm missing something.

i am looking for a credit card to build my credit history. I've tried applying through my bank (chevychase) but they don't offer a student credit card. I've also tried applying for american express student credit card, but i got rejected because i am attending a 2 year college, instead of a 4 year college. Can someone recommend me a good credit card to build my credit history. Thanks in advance

It's a promotional thing, so they generally only give it to new customers. But i just called and they said they'd put in a request for it and notify me via mail if it was approved. The rep said that it generally gets approved because the company decided that they'd honor the 5% for all customers who ask for it.
Gotta love Citibank. So I already had this card and called to say that I was not getting 5% back on those listed purchases despite the web site saying this card offered 5% back for all open accounts in good standing. Essentially I was told this:
Them: "This is a promotion that doesn't apply to your card. You can apply for a new Dividend Plat Sel card and then get the new dividend rate."
Me: "But then I would have two identical cards for Citibank without even identical benefits. That's silly. Why can't you just upgrade my current card to the benefits you claim it has on your website?"
Them: "We can't do that b/c it doesn't apply to your card. It applies to new cards." (note that nowhere does it say this is some sort of promotion on the website)
At that point, I just gave up and figured I'd call on a weekday and ask to speak to a supervisor. There's no way in hell I'm going to go through another credit check, change a credit card number, apply for a new card, wait for a new card, get a new billing date, etc. just to get an identical card that actually has up-to-date benefits. . . .

I think I'm headed towards the AMEX blue for a few reasons.
I shop at CostCo on a semi frequent basis and I can now use AMEX there for gas and everything else. Also from what I hear/read AMEX has excellent customer service and side benefits.
Downside, AMEX isn't accepted everywhere, so I will keep my Amazon VISA for everything else...

these are only my opinions, so take them with a grain of salt:
i have a visa, mc, and discover... i found that for rewards and cashback % and whatnot..theyre pretty much all even... customer service has been terrific from all... and dont they all have zero liability anyways? APR is notwithstanding... i dont carry balances
i dont think most ppl will notice a diff between most of these. my card of choice, tho, is the MBNA Platinum Plus Mastercard Worldpoints Rewards...
1. Mastercard has them most benefits, over Visa, and then Discover (rental car insurance, travel life insurance, etc)
2. Instant posting of temporary authorizations (my visa & disc does not do this)
3. One-time use # generation (i believe AMEX & some other MC does this, too)
4. Flexible rewards (redeem cash or travel or prizes... obviously cash is best, as the cash equivalent of the others are lower... tho its nice to have a choice)
i havent found another card with the same combination of features... perhaps citibank might offer one. but anyways, i dont really care, as i reinstate that any other card would do fine for me
