you guys do know that when you open up two Citibank credit cards that the 2nd one can be combined into your 1st one? Then you'll have your new card with new benefits with the same member since date. Plus a bigger credit limit.

Update on upgrading Citi Div Plat Sel card to 5% benefits:

Third time's the charm. I called today expecting to get into an argument with a supervisor over getting the updated benefit on my existing card. Instead, the woman said there would be no problem for her to submit a request to get the new benefit on my existing card and that I would get a letter within 30 days informing me that the change had been made. She said that there was no reason why it shouldn't happen. So this coincides very well with what at least one other person has posted here (but is very different from my Sunday experience both via phone and online). I'd recommend that existing users call to try and upgrade and to preferably do it during peak business hours (9-5 M-F) since there might be a lack of knowledge issue at work. And if you fail once, try again.

Just a small update..

Called up citibank CSR today to follow up.

According to the rep I talked to, they added this benefit to my account as of 3/22/04 (this monday)... I had initially called in on sunday to inquire about getting it.

We'll find out in the next billing cycle if indeed im getting 5% or 1% on these charges.

For now though, I'll still stick to using AAA for gas purchases since it's an immediate 5% credit rather than a cash back that I need to accumulate $100 before they issue any refunds.

I didn't realize that you could just upgrade your Platinum Select card to a Platinum Select Dividend card. So I called yesterday and asked to upgrade, but you have to mention that you want the 5% plan before upgrading otherwise they will only give you the default 1%. Apparently this is because the 5% program is a "promo" although the plan name is identical. Anyways, the customer rep said that she would be able to take care of it in the next couple days, so it should all work out.

Just make sure you mention the 5% plan specifically when calling, and say that you got the information off of the web page.

I'm currently looking for a card to transfer a 6k+ balance to so my only criteria is 0% interest for a year or so on balance transfers and hopefully No Balance Transfer Fee. I have a CItiBank and AT&T offer that do that but my current card is a Citibank card and they won't let you transfer from one Citi card to another.

So it looks like I might hop over to BankOne but a bunch of things at the best-card.com site look interesting too so I guess we'll see what happens.

have you tried Discover? you can get 0% for the life of the transfer if you're a new customer with really good credit. even if your credit sucks (like mine) you can get at least 3.9% for the life too.

I get deals like this in the mail at least weekly.. This week was something from capital one for a 0% balance xfer with no fees til july 05.

If you got good credit, the companies will hunt you down themselves...

I usually do but lately I've gotten ones that are affiliated with cards I already have so I can't transfer the balances between them. And the only other one I have has the fees. Maybe I'll give ita day or two in case something better comes in.

I applied for a new card...got one...but was confused on the APR. I plan to pay it in full everytime and was not sure if there would be any finance charges...since the "Card Agreement" did not clearly state that....SO

I called the CSR ..he confirmed the 5% cash back no charges if paid in full everytime...and enrolled me into a credit-protection program ...free for first 30 days...$15 bonus gas card...for enrolling...

edit : this is the citi div plat select card that I am talking about.

How are balance transfers handled. If I transfer a balance to a card that offers 0% for one year but don't pay the whole transfer off in one year how do they charge interest. Are they going to charge me interest on the ENTIRE balance transfer or just the amount that I haven't paid off yet?

The better card would be Citibank Debite Card. It's a MasterCard but I don't know why they call it debit. I already ask them if it have debit and they said it's only credit card without debit. Anyway, here is the number crunch.

5% on Gas + Grocery stores.
1% everything else.

So if you buy milk U get 5% too. *hheheh*

I'm a undergrade student and I was offered (and did accept) a fixed 5.9 percent Ameritrade MBNA Mastercard becase of my ameritrade account. If your a student i think this is a good card with a lower rate to build up a credit history with

"Reward details: 5% back on purchases at supermarkets, gas stations, and drugstores and ..."

is that supposed to be 5% or 0.5%?

Yeah that sounds too good to be true doesn't it!

5% off for gas and groceries?!!!!! :Q

Unfortunately, the check is only issued when you obtain hit $100 in cash back.
This is actually not true. I applied for this card less than a month ago and already received it. I use it all the time now...especially since I spend a lot of money on gas.

I actually spoke to CSRs before I applied for the card. It is true that you will not get a cashback check until you hit $100 (which I havent done yet), but every calendar year, you start fresh. So say by the end of the year, you only accumulated $70 in cash back savings, then they will cut you a check on 12/31 for $70. It's just that you wont get checks prior to that unless you hit $100 in cashback.

And it is 5% not 0.5% (at Gas stations, Drugstores, & Supermarkets). 1% everywhere else. And the APR is only 9.99% on purchases, which isnt bad at all. The 0% balance transfer was nice now that my Discover Card's 0% introductory rate is over and it's at 12.99% on purchases.

And just like how Discover has Deskshop, this Citibank Mastercard has an application too...it actually looks surprisingly similar.

simple solution get a card from a company that will let you upgrade so get american express blue for students then after a little while call up and say i want to upgrade to blue cash(spent 4k on it so far have accumulated 45$ back so i'm already earning more then 1%), I had mine for a while when I did that but they did let me do it and i'm still a student. Chase on the other hand is stupid and says i have to reapply to upgrade a student card. And the card won't renew once it expires if you are no longer a student, so they essentially automatically lose a customer (since applying for credit cards isn't that great for credit reports, I wouldn't want to apply for another one right now), what kind of a bonehead thought up that plan. Especially since the avg college student graduates 4 grand in debt, I'd think a credit card company would want to keep these customers.
