First, don't be mislead by those ads offering "upto 5%" "upto 10%" "upto 2%" cash back.. For all purchases, You should be able to get 1%-1.5% cash back, for gas purchases you should look for a card that offers 3% back or more. Some of the offer offer higher rebate % if you carry a balance. However, the interest you pay will likely be much higher than 1 or 2% benefit you get from the additional cash rebate. so
The AMEX blue cash card is a good cash rebate card for people who spend $13000 or more per year. Because the top rebate tier is 1.5% cash back.(starts after annual spend reaches $7000+) If you can charge $24000 a year, your total rebate is about $300.
If you spend less than $13000 a year, a flat 1% cash rebate card will earn more cash rebates. A good choice is the chase perfect card--a gas rebate card with 1% back on all purchases and 3% back on any gasoline purchase.
any then.. there is the new discover with cashback bonus plus card, a very good gas rebate card. with a reverse tier rebate structure:
First $1500 in gas purchase earn 5% back, next $1500 earn 3%, ..so on. This would be a good card, if you spend less than $120 on gas each month.
