Thanks for the info... Was a tough choice deciding between Citibank Dividend Platinum and the Chase Perfectcard, but you get more money from the Citibank card (5% for gas/drugs/food, 1% everything else vs. 3% gas, 1% everything), it just takes longer to get it since they only mail it out in $100 increments, rather than the instant return from the Chase Perfectcard. So I went and got approved for the Citibank card.

I don't get it. Almost any local credit union will offer you fixed 8.9% or 7.9% with 1% cash back for visa platinum. Why on earth would people be considering these 5% cash on gas and food when the apr is 15% and the default is 25%?

If you pay if off EVERY month, perhaps... but there aren't alot of people I know that do that.....

I use Chase Perfect card for everything and REI visa card for REI purchases.

Apply REI card now and get $25 credits:
http://reivisa.com/53rei/
(you have to be REI member to get this card, I think it is $15 one time fee to join)

Yeah, for those of us who do carry a balance, I got an interesting offer the other day. In the past, I've looked for 0% intro rates and tried to pay down my debt before the intro period expired. But I never paid it down all the way, so I keep running from card to card. I think this can reflect badly and bring down your credit score. So anyway, the new offer from Capital One is a 3.99% APR on both balances and purchases forever! I'm considering it, since it's by far the best APR I've been offered. However, no rewards, just borrowing for cheap. Just another option to consider.

Ya think the Citi Dividend card would give 5% at Walmart - after all, they have grocery stores.

i have a visa, mc, and discover... i found that for rewards and cashback % and whatnot..theyre pretty much all even... customer service has been terrific from all... and dont they all have zero liability anyways? APR is notwithstanding... i dont carry balances

i dont think most ppl will notice a diff between most of these. my card of choice, tho, is the MBNA Platinum Plus Mastercard Worldpoints Rewards...

1. Mastercard has them most benefits, over Visa, and then Discover (rental car insurance, travel life insurance, etc)
2. Instant posting of temporary authorizations (my visa & disc does not do this)
3. One-time use # generation (i believe AMEX & some other MC does this, too)
4. Flexible rewards (redeem cash or travel or prizes... obviously cash is best, as the cash equivalent of the others are lower... tho its nice to have a choice)

i havent found another card with the same combination of features... perhaps citibank might offer one. but anyways, i dont really care, as i reinstate that any other card would do fine for me

Agreed! It rocks!

Have MBNA WorldPoints!

I've also been contemplating this one, Lorax.
info can be found at 877myshell.com

heres a quick 'n' dirty:
5% back on all shell, 1% back on everythin else.
cash back goes toward future shell purchase automatically
13.99% APR after the 0% for 6 months.
$20 annual fee, which is waived first year, and afterward as long as you make at least 9 shell purchases

i fuel up at shell about 50% of the time anyways, and while not truely "cash back", cash redeemable toward gas is cash enough for me.

and the annual fee is waved if you make at least 9 stops at shell, its $20 otherwise...course when shell is about 7 cents cheaper then no-name gas (with the 5% figured), why NOT stop at shell at least 9 times

only hitch i see is deisel or aviation fuel doesnt apply.

bottom line: seems good to me as long as you've got a good amount of shell's around

I like my USAA Mastercard... %1 taken off entire credit card bill....every month..... (note: Only military vets and direct family can get one)

Actually, ANYONE can sign up with USAA Federal Savings Bank and they do not need to be affiliated with the military in any way. Yes, USAA's insurance is limited to the military, but the bank is not. I have been with them for over 10 years and wouldn't even consider switching banks.

I've called USAA on several occasions to verify that USAA FSB is available to everyone. One of my co-workers just signed up with USAA FSB and he, nor his familiy, has ever served in the military.

I know it might not be for everyone, but dont forget about the TJ Maxx Visa. I think it's 1% everywhere, and 5% in TJ Maxx stores, such as Home Goods, Marshalls, etc. Comes in really handy that 5%.

And dont forget the Amex Costco Cash rebate Card.... 2% to be used at Costco as ca$h!!

I'm confused as to how this is better than the flat 1% off cards. I guess you get the money back every month instead of having to request it.

I was recently forced to switch from my Chase Stockback Mastercard to the Chase PerfectCard Mastercard. It gives a flat 1% that I can get at any time. Plus 3% on gas. I would switch to something else but I haven't found anything better yet.

I love how Amex blue does the extended warranty and 90 day return protection (even with accidental damage to the item), but I hate their points system. It sucks.

I love how Discover Classic has cashback partners and allows you to get $40 gift certificates for only $20 worth of cashback. They also do extra cashback through certain partners. For instance, I can get 7% back if I link through the discover website to buy from BarnesandNoble.com. But I hate their tiered cashback system (you don't get a full 1% until you hit a certain amount). I figured it up once and found that you lose basically $20 worth of cashback because of the tiered system, and that is the same for everybody.

I have all three of those cards (Amex Blue, Chase PerfectCard, and Discover Classic) and use them all for different purposes. If I could find one card that does all of the things that each of those cards offer individually, I would sign up in a heartbeat.

I'm in the market for some new cards, and I decided to go with the Citibank Dividend Platinum for the rewards. I pay the card off every month, because I don't believe in spending what I don't have. It's just a way for me to get more back for what I will spend money on anyway (groceries, gas, clothes). However, I also applied for the Amex blue since theres no annual fee and I can just hold on to the card for purchases on things where I might need to utilize some benefits like extended warranties or one time use CCs. I've read some stories about Mastercard that, while I suppose it works, Amex seems to make everything a lot smoother. I guess overall, im more reward-centric and am looking for a way to optimize what I already spend, because with the cards, it's not like I'm gonna go out and spend more.

I think I'm headed towards the AMEX blue for a few reasons.
I shop at CostCo on a semi frequent basis and I can now use AMEX there for gas and everything else. Also from what I hear/read AMEX has excellent customer service and side benefits.
Downside, AMEX isn't accepted everywhere, so I will keep my Amazon VISA for everything else...

Anyone use the BankOne Free Cash Rewards Platinum Visa card? Has the 1% cash back and pays out faster than CitiBank so seems like a good choice unless I'm missing something.
