try american express, I have had good experience with them.
in fact, better buy it with a amex card that has best value guarantee program, (like the amex starwood card) that way, if later the price drops(within 60days) amex will pay the difference. you also earn 1.25 miles/dollar with this card. This is the only amex card I carry, and it is also the only card I don't mind paying an annual fee -- $30.

check this thread for the amex starwood card

I racked up some credit card debt while I was unemployed and in grad school, and would like to transfer the balance.

I had read an article in CNN about companies that will give you a 0% rate on balance transfers for the lifetime of the balance as long as you pay on time, and use the card at least once a month. Does anybody know anything about where these cards are offered?

Or are there other suggestions for cards that will at least offer 0% for awhile, then lock in at a low rate?

Thanks

Watch out because these cards are very tricky. They almost always will make you pay first in first out. So if you balance transfer $4000, then the next $4000 that you pay them all goes toward that original balance transfer. That all has 0%. However, they will charge you a high interest rate on purchases, and you can't pay those purchases off until you pay off your original balance transfer. So basically they screw you. I had this happen to me on a 12 month interest free balance transfer. The terms of the deal were that I had to buy something worth $100 within the first 2 months. So I did. Then I kept seeing them charge me interest each month. I found out that I couldn't pay off that $100 until I paid off everything else first.

Regarding to the Citibank Dividend Platnum Select:

Yes they are giving out 5% for gas and groceries, but then you have to wait till $100 reward, and if you didn't reach $100 before you cancel your account it will be gone. Assuming a mean of $50 not taken when you cancel your account, your unclaimed reward of $50 over a mean of 4 yrs period is $50/4 = $12.5 in opportunity cost.

So for your transaction amount, if you found anything that give you less than $12.5 difference each year but pay you back every billing cycle, go for that instead of the Dividend card.

My Chase Freedom (former shell) give me 3% on gas and 1% everything else just like Dividend, but they pay out every month. I spend about $100 on groceries and $400 on gas every month (4000 miles per month), so that would be a $400 * 0.02 + $100 * 0.04 = $12 difference per month, equal to $144 differences per year.

I encourage everything to calculate. Dividend here I come. =)
