I've had them detect legitimate fraud in the past...probably 3 times in 12 years on 2 cards.
I've had false positives at least 6 times that cost me a lot of headaches. I only have 2 cards...my check card and a credit card. My check card is a credit union outsourced fraud dept...so they actually lock up my card and I have to deal with them to get things straightened out.
I tried buying an iPhone 7 yesterday as a present for someone and the transaction never went through (ie...never got a confirmation, only a payment error) ....of course, I tried 4 more times and then got a call from the company. I had to wait on hold and close the fraud case. I asked if any of the charges went through and was told the first one did....but I have no journal on my account (even today) and still no email confirmation *(though I wouldn't expect it since I got no instant confirmation either checking out). The vendor is a national subsidiary of a major corporation....it's not shady at all.
I can't use my CC for the purchase because my wife uses the account, has her own card on the account, and has my account login info since she makes payments. She'd see the charge and know what it is. I'm really just venting. I know the solution is to pay cash locally...I was just trying to save $100 off retail.
