<< You are all wrong!
The best card I ever came across was the Associates Nat'l Bank VISA:
http://www.studentcreditcard.com/
It looks like it is currently a student card, but I don't know if you are actually *required* to be a student. Anyway, just go sign up for a $200 class if you want.
It pays 3% rebate on ALL purchases. The catch: You must carry a balance that month. What I would do is always round down when I paid my bill. Ex: My bill was $247.53 so I would pay the $247. That seemed to work, although I must admit; it was kind of hit or miss.. they certainly have an *ODD* interest calculator. Some bills it would be 8 cents, other times 8 dollars. Then you turn over the bill and see how complicated computing the interest is!
>>

Once again, let me point out that paying all but $1 of your bill is a very dangerous thing to do. Most credit cards charge you interest from the date of purchase if you do not pay the bill in full, even if it's $1 less than the amount due, and they base it on the average daily balance so you end up losing the float. I am surprised your interest charge was only 8 cents some months -- $8 would seem much more reasonable and that will eat your entire 3%, and then some. Maybe if your returns+payments covered the previous balance they would not charge you interest? But then you would not get the rebate, either.

Bottom line, any card which only pays you a rebate if you carry a balance is an incredibly COLD deal. And to have it on a card specifically targeted to students is truly despicable, because they are trying to teach you to carry a balance and that is truly the worst thing they can do. Learn to stay within your means and pay your bill in full. Period.

It look like the Juniper card is the best when it comes to cash back - at 2% and no carry balance nessasary, it looks like a deal.

HOWEVER, another aspect of a GOOD credit card is the web interface and how well their CSR's are.

THat's where discover card really shines... they even have personalized cc numbers for those shady companies.

Who can recommend the BEST Credit Card interface?

AMEX may have a great rewards program , etc... but their website interface is so bad I don't even use the card unless I have to.

Please help!

If you fly delta, they will offer you a "delta Skymiles Gold Optima" amex. This card obviously gets the delta miles you want with the $85/year WAIVED. They called up my gf recently and gave her this card. I kid you not

fat deal.

MitzEclipse,

The Juniper cash rebate card is the best cc to earn cash rebate. Several hundred dollar cash rebate within a year is very much doable. Since 1% cash rebate starts as soon as your spending reaches $2000, it's a good choice even if you don't spend a lot.

Juniper's online account access is simply excellent. It's fast and reliable. They also keep 16 months of statement online for you. Account information are accurate up to the minute! also here is something really cool: you can access your account through a web-enabled cell phone. You can view your account balances, move money between accounts, and receive account alerts. For account alerts, any digital cell phone will work and it's pretty easy to set up.

You also get warranty extension upto 1 year and 90-day insurance on purchases against theft and damage with the card.

There are only two credit cards in my wallet, one amex blue card and one Juniper cash rebate mastercard

<< Actually, the Chase Stockback card is kind of interesting - it pays a 1% bonus into a mutual fund, and 10% on the infamous "selected merchants." Too bad Chase has something like a 24-day cycle. It really sucks having to make an extra payment every couple months if you carry balances. Really FUBARs a monthly budget. >>

24 day cycle? I have never heard of that. You mean each month it closes roughly a week earlier than the last? I know that many banks require payment to be received within 20 days of the bill closing day (as opposed to 25 that always used to be standard), but the bill still closes the same time each month.

I have a Toys R Us Visa from Chase and I am fairly sure it still on a monthly statement basis.

Bill
>>

It might vary depending on the product - I had two Chase Gold Visas (one was Chase originally, and one became Chase when they merged with Chemical) and it drove me nuts when I'd get four statements from them all due in the same month. I dumped them for cards with sane billing cycles. (although I do still have a Citibank Sony card with a 28 day cycle... and no balance. )

Hmm.. well it appears there aren't any truly *hot* deals here.. The Associates 3% rebate card, thanks to someone's explanation above, charges you interest on your *AVG BALANCE* not the actual balance you carry over, so many times your rebate will be eaten away.. The Citibank Dividend card, while paying a true 1% gives you "20 days from transaction" grace period, where almost all cards are "25 days from billing". To me, this says that 20 days after you buy something, you are beginning to be charged interest for the purchase--IN SOME CASES BEFORE YOU HAVE EVEN RECEIVED A BILL!!!
The Juniper card pays a very small rebate, unless you are charging more than the US avg annual per capita income on your credit card! My CC bill is usually around $250/mo.. So about $3000 a year. The rebate Iwould get from that is only .058 % -- barely 1/2 a percent, or $17.. not a big deal at all.. My advice.. sign up for that Citibank card someone mentioned and let it automatically pay the bill every month! The savings in postage, headaches, time, and avoidance of late fees is WELL WORTH $17 BUCKS in my opinion!

Or, as I am considering doing, get the Amex Blue with Pricematch card. They will refund the price difference within *TWO MONTHS* of your purchase price if you find something cheaper. If you can't find $17 worth of price changes within a year, there is either something wrong or you are such a tightwad that you are probably buying everything with cash anyway, and shopping at *the* cheapest stores period. But with this analysis, why would anyone get any other type of card? The Amex blue seems the way to go for me. You can easily find 1% of your purchases at a lower price and make more "money" than any rebate card could ever offer you..

**slightly off topic** I read that Amex will accept pricematches from internet stores too, and you have a full TWO MONTHS! So would anything prevent me from going down to my local expensive neighborhood computer store, buying my stuff for too much money and having it immediately, and then pricematching it off the cheapest store on pricewatch? Seems like a great way to avoid shipping wait

amex blue is a great card. it is a must-have card for all bargain hunters like us.
but amex blue is still a american express card, so many places still don't accept amex cards.

the juniper card is a Mastercard, so you can use it at a lot more places. The juniper cash rebate card is the best cash rebate card out there. It's better than those frequent flyer mile credit cards in my opinion. Besides this one doesn't charge you an annual fee.

As all reward credit cards, the more you can spend the more reward/cash rebate you can earn. That's why I get additional cards for others in our family.

Here is the juniper card's Cash back rule:

0.25% .....on the first $1 of purchases
0.50% .....from $1,000 and up
1.00% .....from $2000 and up
2.00% .....from $10000 and up

$12,000/year = $128 cash rebate
$24,000/year = $368 cash rebate
$30,625/year = $500 cash rebate

Just use the cash rebate calculator to figure out how much you can earn.

Actually, the Farm Bureau Bank Visa is the BEST cash rebate card out there. They offer a straight 2% back (it's not tiered like other cards). They also have other percentage levels, you decide which one you want to cash in on. You save up enough points to cash in and they send you a check. They will also give you 2,500 points to sign up (ends up being $50 if you cash in at the 2% level). Check it out: Linkified. I don't know how their interest rates and/or other fees are since I pay off my balance each month.

I think my Chase shell card is the best card for me,it give unlimited rebate for the shell gas, it will rebate 5% for shell card, and 1% for everything else EACH MONTH, I always able to find a shell gas station nearby sell gas at discount price 2-3 days per week, no matter what their rebate amount was it will not be enough for my gas bill. I pay cheap gas price - 5% - rebate from last month.

Whatever card you get, you can lower your APR usually buy having a large balance and paying it off. I did that with balance transfers and my Platinum Alaska Airlines rate went down to 11.99% and I have lifetime 8% balance transfers. They charge $75 a year but you get a $50 companion fare, 2 1st class upgrades, and 2000 miles each year. I now have 60000 miles and a free international trip just about anywhere. They also just added a Dining program where you get 5 - 10 miles per dollar spent at their restaurants, and they have a huge list of them. My buddy spends $100 a week at their restaurants and gets 4-5000 miles each month which is a free trip every 6 months. I'll be going to Belize for free and I'll take a friend 1st class for $50. Not bad....

It's hard to describe, but it's not tiered. They offer different levels of redemption. One (the 2% one) is 35,000 points which you get $700 for. You get 1 point per $ spent. That equates to 2%. If you don't want to wait until you get 35,000 points you can turn them in for different %'s. I do about 35,000 a year in purchases, thus I will get my 2% when I hit 35,000. Check out this link for a comparison: Credit Card Goodies You should keep this link handy if you are into the credit card incentives!

<< I hate Discover Card. The customer service for dispute is very bad. I also received tons of mails and phone calls asking me for applying a new Discover card. I am considering sueing them when I have time! >>

Go for it ! I dislike them too and their customer service is the worst I have ever dealt with! They still owe me my $35 for getting the Platinum Card. If they don't pay up soon, I'm filling complaints against them.

American Express is without a doubt the best card there is. If a place doesn't take AMEX, they don't get my business.

you got to remember that discover offers double cashback awards. I have about 75 cashback so far. So that will turn into 150. Which means lots of blockbuster rentals. etc.

i have a discover platinum card also. i signed up during their 30$ off first payment awhile back. before that i was a loyal discover card user for more than 6 years. its been 8 months now, and i have yet to receive my 30$. i even called to dispute it, and had a supervisor actually flat out lie to me about why i can't get it and outright refused to gimme the money. from that moment on i make it a point to stay away from my discover card unless theres a very good deal that goes with it. amex blue rules. this is my main card now, so discover can kiss my ass. :disgust:

Simmer down people! Some of you are getting too excited about credit cards. Here's what I have to say about them:

1. They really should be for emergencies only. It's too easy to get into trouble with them. Use a debit card instead and stay within your limits. Don't get caught up in all this reward crap. None of it is worth it.

Now, do as I say not as I do, 'cause I have a card and that sucker's full! Seriously though, I state 1. above because I speak from experience. It's too hard to resist using your credit once you have it.

Anyway, I have the Capital One MilesOne card. It's 9.9% interest and a low $19 annual fee. Its reward program is the usual one mile for every dollar spent. But you can also use your miles to buy some items in a brochure they send you, including various items like DVD players, Luggage, Stereos, etc... OR you can turn in your miles for cash. Once you hit 20,000 miles, you can get $200 dollars cash back, 30,000 miles yields $300, etc... They started this recently and it's a good option if you don't wanna travel. Oh yeah, the miles are good on any airline with no blackout dates! Cool, huh? I have enough for a free ticket now. You need at least 18,000 miles to fly within your zone, etc...

2. Credit Unions are good for checking accounts and loans, but I don't find their credit card rates all that good. In fact, I've always gotten 9.9% elsewhere. If you have good credit you should demand 9.9% from your card company and be ready to leave them if they don't comply. They've always complied when I asked.

3. Switching from card to card can hurt your credit score. They know what you're doing.

4. Someone mentioned buying cars with a credit card? No. There's freakin' 0% financing out there, don't use your credit card!

5. Beware of a couple of things when transferring to another card. Intro rates often don't include balance transfers OR there are balance transfer fees. Skim the fine print (noone reads it all, I don't think)

Does anyone know of any card that doesn't count person-to-person payment sites (i.e. c2it.com or paypal.com) as a cash advance?

Amex Blue, MBNA MC, and Juniper Visa/MC all count transactions on those sites to be cash advances, and you're charged something like 13% of the amount as a fee.

I can't seem to find a card that I can use fee free on these sites...

anyone?

<< I had Citibank cards for 10 years, until they (allegedly) sent out two new cards (unrequested, years before mine had expired!), then when I called in to inquire about the letter I received asking why I had not activated the unrequested cards, they immediately cancelled both of mine. Of course this was three days before X-Mas and my landlord was fumigating so I was staying in a hotel that I had reserved under that cc. Not to mention I bought several gifts online that did not go through. Citibank refused to help me in any way to get a new number in time for the fumigation -- there was NOTHING they could do to help me. I called them back after I returned home and cancelled both cards. I will NEVER do business with them again.:| >>

Wow...that sounds familiar. Citibank did something similar to me -- two days before I was leaving the country on a big vacation, I received a letter: Someone had stolen a large number of credit card numbers, so a whole bunch of accounts were being closed and new cards reissued. I called Citibank to get a new card rushed to me ASAP and they couldn't do it for me -- despite the fact that I had a Gold card which supposedly included 24-hour emergency replacement card. Haven't used my Citibank card since. :|

For c2it, I am pretty sure if you use a CitiBank issued card they won't charge you cash advance fees.

CitiBank issue some frequent flyer mile credit card, I think it's for American Airline. the annual fee is like $50

I paid off all my credit cards several years ago and closed the accounts. I have a good credit rating but can't get a card due to inadequate credit history...no cards, no history, no history, no cards. Any suggestions for getting out of this rut? Wanted a Amex Blue, they said get a few cards and try them later...
