You are all wrong!
The best card I ever came across was the Associates Nat'l Bank VISA:
http://www.studentcreditcard.com/
It looks like it is currently a student card, but I don't know if you are actually *required* to be a student. Anyway, just go sign up for a $200 class if you want.
It pays 3% rebate on ALL purchases. The catch: You must carry a balance that month. What I would do is always round down when I paid my bill. Ex: My bill was $247.53 so I would pay the $247. That seemed to work, although I must admit; it was kind of hit or miss.. they certainly have an *ODD* interest calculator. Some bills it would be 8 cents, other times 8 dollars. Then you turn over the bill and see how complicated computing the interest is!
Nevertheless its still a GREAT deal and they put the credits directly on your bill when you get $25 or so, which is perfect.. no checks to cash, no points to spend, just money in your pocket! I must say.. no matter what the reward, chances are you are MUCH better with CASH REBATES!! Example: You may get 3% off of Shell gas, but every time I see Shell, they are MORE than 3 cents higher than the competition.. so just save your money and buy someone else's dead dinosaurs.. Same for airlines.. I love Southwest, but if you spend $16,000 for a ticket.. well if you just had 3% cash rebate that would give you $480 which is enough to fly *INTERNATIONALLY* on the expensive carriers.. or to buy 3 tickets or so on Southwest themselves.. So just keep this in mind.
Oh and a FINAL warning about this 3% rebate card. They cancel your rebate every 16 months or so.. This really p*sses me off, cuz its just after I memorize the new number, and I have to cancel it and get a new card. Very stupid, as it wastes us all effort and money. There is no way to get around this. There is no warning of it, just one month you see no "rebate credit"
