One other benefit of Discover card... Usually (at least last year) I had the option of converting my cash rebate into a double bonus. So, for example, I could turn a $100 rebate into a $200 credit on a future United Airlines flight. I used this option in the past and got a great deal, but just make sure you are going to need the credit within 1 year because the tickets will expire.
[edit] Just noticed this at the Discover website. They are moving away from the yearly cashback deal and changing to an anytime-you-want-it type of structure, as long as you have at least $20 coming to you...
