<< What do peole think of the Farm Bureau credit card? If you spen $35,000 over 3 years it is a TRUE 2% cash back. >>

I checked their web site. It says "up to" 2%. Why people are willing to ignore these two small but significant words is puzzling to me. So then what is a not-so-true 2% cash back if not Farm Bureau CC?

if you have an MBNA card you should ask about their new MBNA (quantum) elite rewards program

It's always free to switch around with mbna

I have searched the planet for the best credit card and I have found one! I use the Shell MasterCard from chase. I requires that you make at least 9 purchases a year from Shell but, It gives you 5% back on all purchases made at Shell and gives you 1% back on purchases made elseware. I think we all use gasoiline so what could be better? I have saved a bunch of money using it.

ENIAC - Unfortunately in my case I prefer and have near me Chevron and Texaco.

I'd like a Chevron/Texaco card which gives 5% back on gas and regular purchases, there I go dreaming again.

speaking of gasoline cards, the Sunoco mastercard gives you 4% back on all sunoco purchases and 1% back on all others, no annual fee. good card.

Magicktech - the Sunoco is a great card for gasoline purchases, but you need to read the very fine print for the non-gas rebate. Turns out it's only 1/2% for up to $7500, and 1% above that. So it's basically useless for non-gas purchases. However, if you buy gas at Sunoco, it's a great card. The 4% from the previous month's purchases is used to pay the following month's bill, so you don't even lose the 4% on the portion of purchases that you are getting for free. Associates (the card issuer) was recently taken over by Citibank), and I hope they will integrate the card into their www.accountonline.com system so I can have it paid automatically every month as I do with my other Citibank cards.

KATX, the Farm Bureau Card pays a FULL 2 % back once you have spent $35,000 and points/$spent carry over as noted above. What that means is, if you are like me and spend over $35,000 a year, I get a check for $700. The other graduated paymnt cards NEVER reach a true 2 % becuase the first xxx and yyy dollars spent only pay the lesser % amount no matter how much more you spend.

So for those that spend over 35K, it is a full 2 % back on the full 35K. I could be wrong but I know of no others that match it at that spending level. I have not comparedd it at lesser levels becuase it works best of all cards for me, but heck, I maxed out my American Airlines CitiBank AAdvantage card miles at 60,000 last year $$$ are better than miles unless you are using miles to Upgrade -- I use Farm Bureau to buy the ticket and AA to upgrade to business class.

As the poster said, it's an ad. Now, they may have sent you an ad with a better deal than they were offering to the general public. But all the pre-approved offer means is that based on some criteria which they used to cull your name from a mailing list, or possibly from a credit reporting agency's files. But it does not mean that you are guaranteed a card, only that if you meet their requirements, you will get one.

I got the student visa card by associates national bank it gives u 3% cash back. I also have citibank dividend platinum select that gives you 1%. Actually associates and citibank merged, but they still run separately. i like citibank better though... better customer service and online system. Citibank rocks =)

The vouchers are completly worthless. The prices do not include taxs or other charges, so by the time you add in other fees, the ticket price is well above what can be found by searching online with an engine such as Sidestep.com. Also the vouchers have blackout dates. Still, the amex blue student card is still worth getting if you don't have credit.

As I mentioned I went on their web site. It says "up to" 2%. I tried to get more detailed info but did not find any. Do you have site/cite or a direct quote from their site that says so.

At any rate, I have not found any other credit card that pays a true 2% under any condition.

Ok, I did some more checking and I did find the rules. They are at:

http://www.farmbureaubank.com/disclosures/rules_grids.PDF

And if you spend $35000 in three years, you would get back $700 (which is 2%).

A few points, however:

1. There is one other "true" 2% card: Amoco credit card. However, they would give you the cash back in gas money and the limit is $70 of rebate per year. So the FB (Farm Bureau) cards sound a lot better. But for those of us who would spend less than $3500 a year on CC, Amoco is the ?true? 2% rebate card. FB is not.

2. I am a bit uneasy to wait as long as 3 years to get my rebate -- not to mention the interest that you lose on that. What if I am late on one payment? Can they cancel me? They say, if cancelled, I would lose all my points.

3. On the subject of how much time I have to earn 35,000 points, here is a quote from them:

?Points earned in the Program shall be subject to expiration at the end of the third calendar year after accrual.?

This is a bit vague. What if I accrue a point in 12/30/2000? Then we have 12/31/2000, 12/31/2001, 12/31/2002 and on 1/1/2003 I would lose the points. This sounds more like two years to me. I know that that is not the only interpretation. The most liberal interpretation would give you between 3 to 4 years depending when in the calendar year you earn the point. (It is not always 4 years as earlier claimed.)

Having said all of the above I say that FB sounds like a great deal.

My best overall credit card by far is Chase Manhatten. $3,500 limit and 6.1% year round (give or take a 0.1%). Although they do not have any benefits, their low interest rates makes me use this card as a priority over others.

I'm pretty sure all visa platinum cards have this. It's done directly through Visa and not through the creditcard company.

a card giving 3:1 $:miles is absolutely terrible. I know that with Amex, despite no BVG, you can get 2:1 with continental, and if you have a pay card, you get 1:1....there are better deals out there..

Roseman,
Causion with fleet card. I used to pay the bill on-line. One day they told me the transaction cannot be completed and charged me for late fee. I checked with my bank and nothing was wrong. Called Fleet and the CSR told she will be give me back the late fee. One month later, still no credit back. Called again and I was told that their manager did not approve the credit......
I don't use Fleet anymore. I suggest using snail mail to pay the bill if you want to deal with them.

Wrong. Creditors get names for 'pre-approved' mailings from credit bureau lists. They find ppl that meet certain requirements and send the solicitation out. YOU ARE GUARANTEED a credit card from that creditor, but you have to read the brochure to see which card you may get. Usually its some 9.9% Platinum card advertised on the front that you could get, but read the back and it will also have information about a 21% "Standard Gold Card". So to sum up...if you get a pre-approved mailing you will get a credit card from them, but read the entire brochure to determine which cards you are applying for.

Hey I've had a CC for about 8 months wells fargo student visa, i applied for amex blue regular about a month ago. Got Denied. Would it be safe to apply for amex blue student card right now? I don't want to mess up my rating. I know I should just stick with my visa but I think the blue card looks cool . I pay off my CC full balance every month I can manage my money pretty well.
