Credit report dispute question

I recently disputed a filing on my credit report through Experian. They investigated it and determined it was not valid so it was deleted off of my report. My question...Do I have to file the same dispute with Transunion and Equafax in order to get this filing off of those reports? Or are they automatically informed and take the appropriate action?

They swap info but I would dispute the other 2 also.

Dispute it through all three agencies to ensure it is removed.

Each dispute has to be done separately. In fact, you might find that one of them removes the item while another one "investigates" and decides the item is valid and leaves it on there. The whole process is really messed up.

True but way easier than prior to the 2003(?)consumer protection changes. Snail mail before.

Yeah, it's not as bad as it was, but it's still messed up. What's worse is that if they decide for whatever reason that an item is "valid" based on their investigation, even if they are wrong, you'll have a very difficult time getting it fixed, unless you hire a lawyer to force the issue.

I just pulled my Equifax report. The filing in question is no longer on that one either, so I guess they did notify each other.
