1) Don't do anything stupid to lower your credit score
2) Achieve peace of mind knowing that you have a high credit score
3) ...
4) Profit?

yea, i understand that. just wondering how many of you actually keep track of your score, on a monthly, semi annual, and annual basis.

I've used annualcreditreport and i don't get my score with it. it just shows me my credit history. unless i missed it somewhere?
You don't unless you pay. No need really to know your score unless you've got some derogatories that you're trying to clean up.

I pull my free ones each year to make sure the info is correct. annualcreditreport, FTW.

I think I might have paid to see my credit score when we were looking for our house. I get my free credit reports every year or two but I haven't bothered paying to look at the scores in at least ten years.

It gives your score free once a year I thought. I got mine free there, somehow.

I've checked mine at annualcreditreport.com once or twice. They don't give you the actual score, but you can check and make sure everything in it makes sense (no mysterious lines of credit, etc...).

I might do that once a year...

I don't keep track. My credit has been frozen with all three bureaus for several years now. I have enough current credit and don't need any new ones. Credit fraud and identity theft are bigger concerns than credit score.

Nope, your FICO score is not free, just the credit report. If you're denied credit anywhere though, you can typically request the information used to make the decision, which I would imagine would always contain your FICO.

I use the Credit Score Tracker from Discover. It's similar to other services and cheap enough, although only tracks Experian but comes with a free monthly report from them. I get my reports from all three every year. I use Credit Karma for my Transunion report (It's free!)

To all those that discredit the score/reports, it can cost you lots of money and heartache when you try for a loan without knowing that your score is low because of something that is incorrect or easily fixable.

It's fiscally important to know your score and what's on you report.

I don't track my credit score...at least not anymore. I used to have a Visa card from Washington Mutual and one of the perks was that they gave you your credit score every month...I think it was Experian that they gave you. Then WaMu turned into Chase, and the overlords at Chase decided I didn't need that line of credit anymore (jackasses) and closed it on me. That was about 2.5 years ago and my score was somewhere between 725 and 750. I'd love to know what it is today if I could get it for free...

I check my free report all the time.

I too use Discover's service. Its only $6/month, the cheapest I could find.
I'm trying HARD to climb out of some bad economic moments of my life, so I want to keep an eye on the score and then refinance some loans when I can.

Credit Karma will give you a free FAKO score. It's not the most accurate, but it's good enough to tell me if someone has started opening cards in my name or something like that. I already have a mortgage and am not planning on taking on any significant debt in the future (I'd rather drive a beater than have a car payment) so my credit score isn't that important.

Yep, mine changed from Providian, to WaMu, then Chase, who in order to serve me better, dropped it. Not sure if that card is still open...it's gone into the "if we stop using it they'll close it eventually" pile.

Who cares? Just got to pull the right strings to get what u want. My score is beyond terrible (500s I think lol), but I got a 3.8% fixed on mortgage, 3.9% auto, 20k credit limit, etc. just walk away and they come back to u with the deals. Everything is negotiable. EVERYTHING.

None of the above. I subscribe to a credit monitoring service that, among other things, provides me with free credit reports. It costs me ~$30 a year, but that is a small price to pay given that someone charged $5000 in Saks fifth avenue gift cards to my credit card a while back. I disputed the charges and ultimately didn't have to pay them, but it was a harrowing process.

I check reports yearly, and use CreditKarma for free scores. I don't actually check CreditKarma that often because my score seems to be stable and it's at a level where I don't need to watch that closely.

How do you go about doing this and is there any negative impact?
