I looked through it and found this PNY compact flash 256mb for 79.99 after saving

I have no idea how good this card is so if anyone can google and find out more about this compact flash card by PNY/rebadged Compusa. That would be nice.
Btw, you got to check online to see whether your local compusa have this item instock or not inorder to score it.

I just picked up a 256 mg CF but got a different one..it was in a smaller package and says it is USB enabled and if you use a jump cable no reader is needed to d/l the pics....als o the card rang up a 4x card...

the one you picked up Tot did the receipt list the speed..my receipt says it is a 4x card..... can not tell the mfg....part number is cf-256-04-259or 284813 ...here is a link...256 mg CF...it is a Lexar product...not sure if this is better than PNY or not

The guys at Compusa were clueless about this card....vs other one ..so I grabbed it figured looked nicer and if it was not as good I would return and swap it out...

Hmm nealh,

The one that I gotten is has the same s/n as yours but it doesnt have the speed rating on it.
Observation: the s/n of those cards are pretty messed up. Maybe they are lexar rebadged compusa but I dont really know its a guess. And yes those guys at the store are cluesless!!!!!!!!

I donnu how fast it feels coz my S330 comes in tommorow.
Anyway this card is going to be my backup and my lexar 256/12X is going to be my main card.

Dont worry about the cards. Basically they should all be the same and the speed wise, I think I remember someone said in one of the forum before that
anything for greater than 4X is good enuff. Avoid 2x totally they are slow!!!!!

Tot.... the card I got is Lexar rebadge based on Compusa website info...

I went to dpreview...see the link....CF speed comparsion

In a nutshell with consumer level camera(they also tested a professiona lgrade camera) ..they used a Nikon CoolPix 995 as the test camera....the fastest the Nikon could write was 4x..so the 12x-16x speed cards made no difference..now is canon s330 a faster writer than the Nikon...I have no idea and this information does not seem to be readily available....I have Canon S30 and have tried to determine write speed to the medai but can not find this data...I also think the battery status has alot ot d owith it..as the battery charge drops so does the camera perfomance in write speed, flash etc....

Just a quick note the 12 x lexar wrote faster(3x) tiff and than the 16x lexar but both did same speed with jpeg files(4x)..none wrote faster than 3x on TIFF files and fastest with JPEG was 4x....so it iwas camera dependent..not media

what do you mean..if you print the ad your local compusa will sell the Compusa CF cards at this price...but you need the ad....the may check with a manager like they did with but they honored no hassles the avg. casier does not know about the ad..so they have to check..no rebates...just $79.99

when I put them into my reader the disk label said Toshiba256, so i'm assuming I got toshiba CF cards. The actual label on the card has this: THNCF256MAA

I don't know what that means, but can guess a few parts of it...


You definitely have to print out the WHOLE ad and take it in - in most cases they won't know about this. They'll want to go online and look for the ad. if you can supply it, all the better - you'll save some time.

This website lists the read speed as 5.4MB/s & the write speed as 3MB/s

Is that good?

PS- This site has a list of different media and the speed difference between them, etc...


Looks like Viking uses the same Toshiba memory and the speed looks pretty good compared to the others.
