After you die, would you prefer your family bury your body or cremate you? Assuming these are the only two options.

Oh come on, open up the options!
You can donate the body for many things, like getting blown up, virus attacks, finding out how fast bugs grow inside you, medical students, and the list goes on!

Cremation and dumped in the sea as well. I don't see a need to take up real estate.

Only those two? Cremation.

Preferred? Promession

Too complicated. If you want to compost someone, just toss them into a giant blender and sprinkle them onto the compost pile.

My newest business idea is to provide Viking Funerals in the Los Angeles area. I'll provide a big wooden boat with you and a lot of wood in it; launch that thing off the Santa Monica pier, and set it ablaze!

Catered BBQ is standard at this type of event.

I want neither, I want cryogenic stasis and to be brought back in a future of technological bliss

If I *HAD* to choose between these two though, I'd go with burial.

We'd have no good ghost/zombie/vampire stories etc if everyone always had been cremated.

I wanna be a skeleton in a classroom. I think that would be cool.

We had a brain in a mustard jar in 7th grade science class. I thought it was awesome.. to that mind full of life and ideas and dreams and hopes.. to ultimately end sitting in a mustard jar in a display case in the hallway of a middle school in the middle of nowhere.

1. Burial at sea
2. Natural burial (cardboard box, rot in the soil).

But I like the concept of promession. I see absolutely no reason to deprive the world of my minerals and material.

Burn me within 24 hours to avoid embalming and if possible get a 2 for 1 deal and burn me with someone else, what do I care.

Yes, I know they can't do that.

I have a cabin in MN and I want my daughter to dump my ashes in my favorite fishing lake.

http://www0.health.nsw.gov.au/factsheets/general/cremation_ashes.html

What can be done with the ashes?

The person who lodges an application for a cremation, often a relative or the executor of the estate, arranges to pick up the ashes.

Once the applicant collects the ashes, they can be:

Buried in a cemetery in a small plot or placement in columbarium or niche wall.
Preserved in a decorative urn and kept at home or some other favourite spot.
Scattered on private land, beach, river, public parks and sea or at a place that was significant to the deceased and families.

OOPS this is AU

I told my wife I wanted to be cremated and have my ashes spread at my favorite surf spot.
