Case- Silverstone TJ07. This is a 3d workstation and running it COOL is the main aim. I don't care about the noise...it does not bother me at all.

Image showing the air flow

I have 90% of the parts now apart from the Opteron 285 cpus.

So I did a quick layout to have everything clear in my head before I start building it. Anything I could improve with regards to airflow?

- Top 2x120mm are exhaust as hot air rises up (default case fan replaced by YS-Tech 1800rpm, 74 CFM, 36 dBa fans)

- The front 120mm will be intake and will feed air to the 1st Zalman heatsink plus some will go straight to shake up the hot air in the video card region. (Same 120mm YS tech fan again)

- The rear 2x92mm (Replaced the default ones with YS-Tech 92mm, 2500 rpm, 49CFM fans) will remain intake just like the original case fans were and feed air to the 2nd Zalman 9500 heatsink

- The zalman 9500s will be pointing downwards. Meaning they will throw hot exhaust air upwards towards the top two 120mm exhaust fans.

- 1x120 (1200 rpm standard fan taken from the top of the case) fan placed towards the back of the PSU to suck out any PSU hot air that might try to rise up through the cable opening in the partition (The HD and PSU area of the case is partitioned off from rest of the case).
Btw the lower section of the case on both sides is mainly mesh.

Thanks for your time.

Edit- I do have the option of getting Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F - 120 mm, 1600, 63.7CFM fans instead. I thought YS are better with the increased airflow.

Let me start off by saying that I would hardly be considered an expert on case air flow. But when I was shopping for a case, I looked at some Lian Li versions which almost have the same set up, minus the 3x 120mm at the bottom. I had some high tech modder tell me that the rear intake directly helped with the CPU and GPU cooling. I think it looks like a great set-up, and it's very ingenious. Good planning. As long as you have the right fans that can move the air properly, I would go with it.

A great idea would be to post this modding plan at the Hard| OCP Forums. They have a case modding section and the people are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about modding. They helped me tremendously with my case, and I had no idea of what I was doing. But you seem to be way ahead of the game. Try there and see what they say.

That looks like a very good air flow pattern; I don't think I would change anything at all. The only negative is large amount of fans you plan to use; with so many intakes and exhausts predicting the exact air flow isn't going to be easy.

BTW, where are you getting the Y.S Tech fans?

Thanks for the replies. Operandi regarding the choice of fans. I have not bought the fans yet. I can buy any of these fans based on what is available in my country-

YS-Tech FD 121225LB (2F3) 120mm
1800 rpm
74 CFM

Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F - 120 mm
1600 rpm
63.7CFM

Papst 4412 F/2GL - 120 mm
1600 rpm
55CFM

YS-Tech looked the most promising on paper and is double ball bearing so I thought about getting that. Scythe S-Flex looks good on paper as well and was a close second..I might still pick it instead (Fluid dynamic bearing).
You think YS-Tech fans are bad?????

What is bit of overkill on an expensive machine ;-)

Important Question- Zalman heatpipes and fan functionality won't be effected due to my "up down" orientation rather than "front back" orientation? If Zalman allows the heatsink to be mounted in all 4 directions then am I right in assuming that Zalman 9500 heatpipes will work properly in my "up down" orientation???????????????

A lot of noise

Yeah the 9500 should work fine irrespective of orientation.

No, Y.S. Tech makes very good fans. I was just wondering where you where getting them since I might be interested myself.
