Okay, I am an experienced high end system builder so this is what you should put in the machine.

Athlon XP 2000+
Wait to see some more benchmarks from the new KT333 chipset and get the board with the highest performance
Swiftech MCX462 Heatsink - Don't go the watercooled route, it is a waste.
Cooler Master ATC110 case, excellent design and cooling.
512MB PC2700 - This is even super overkill because you will never use above 256MB unless you are running server applications at this time.
2 of the WD 120GB SE with the 8MB of cache in a RAID config
Audigy Platinum eX
The DVD drive does not matter
The monitor absolutely must be the Sony F520 if this is going to be an excellent computer. That Samsung stuff is only if you are trying to cut corners and you do not want the best. Currently the F520 is undesputibly the best monitor out. Also do not go for LCD as they do not have as brilliant of colors or dot pitch as CRTs.
If you absolutely want the best, go for the Videologic Digitheater DTS or Klipsch Promedia 5.1.
Get a DVD-R drive, unless you want to wait but the DVD+RW drives have a few minor problems with compatability, so hold off but definetely get a DVD writer drive in the near future.

A few notes:

You do not want to go the multi-processor route, almost all games and standard applications cannot use the power of both processors making it a useless waste of money that is not as powerful. Do not go the SCSI route as the performance diference is very little with the WD 8MB drives, just check out some benchmarks from Maximum PC and you will see that the WD 8MB drives are nearly and sometimes faster than the Seagate 15,000rpm SCSI drives. Just think about these things and post if you have anymore questions.

Um...I know several 16 year olds that drive Porsche Boxters, Trans Am's, Roush Mustangs, etc... because they have rich ass parents that bought them as birthday gifts. For a 16 year old to have 4k is no as uncommon as you think. I'm 17 and I have plenty more than that in the bank.

Yeah I'm calling BS on this thread too. I just love brag threads. :disgust:

On the other hand.....
good chair--- your buddy will have to select this himself. A chair is very personal. I prefer a nice, high-back reclining model with good lumbar support and fabric that breathes.
Agreed ... your imaginary friend doesn't want to grow up looking like Mr. Burns right.

I don't think I would put it all down on a system, computers don't impress girls, CARS impress girls.
Agreed ... Tell your buddy that a real girl is much better than 240 Gigs of available porn storage space.

2GB or RAM is an UTTER WASTE!
Agreed ... 512 is MORE than enough!!!

Radeon 8500 and 2 nice 19 inch monitors with small footprints
Definately. Dual monitor all the fscking way!!!

Tell your drug dealer friend that if he really wants to be a pimp he's gotta impress GIRLS not some sweaty computer nerds off of forums that get off on SCSI, RAID, GHZ, GeForce, FPS etc etc etc...
Tell him to buy some nice clothes and a fake ID and send him off to local hoochie mamma nightclub where he can indulge in girls with expensive fake breasts and cocaine.... if he's gonna be a spoiled little rich boy, then he might as well do what the other spoiled little rich boys do.

Gluttony is a SIN boy!!! REPENT!!!

If it was me, and I was sixteen again, I'de spend like 1500 on the computer and put the rest into some kind of savings, so that I can have money when I'm older. Cars are a big fat waste of money too (I've been there, it's lame). ... (Mine was a 88 camry V6 stick that I used to drag and I'de BEAT those pretty boys in their sh!tty pretty boy cars)

I look at those kids in the tricked out cars nowadays and I almost feel sorry for them... Ego on wheels man, it's so seethrough and plastic. Gino's and gearheads just really piss me off. There is way more to life, stuff you can't get with money. Tell your buddy to go travelling or something. Buy him a camera and a plane ticket so that he can see how people without money live and then maybe he'll realize that life is beautiful without a 4000 dollar computer. All you need is love.

No respect for things got with money, any idiot with money can do that. Respect for love and creativity.

I question your credability as an "experienced high end system builder".

P.S. I'm surprised no one has mentioned a Northwood.

no no no....

You need SCSI RAID-0 with two Seagate Cheetah x15 drives plus one 120gb IDE for backup, or a RAID-5 array.

You also need a 20"-21" LCD monitor!

This is not a practical joke!!
I'll try posting pictures of the new rig when I get it finished. Just remeber this GOD computer thread and I'll
post another thread with the GOD computer title.

I doubt that he's going to go SCSI. All he wants is SPACE.

As far as I know he's been saving up money all his life. He has saved up TEN grand, but he's using
FOUR of it for the computer. We live in Ohio, his parents are not rich, they probably drive old chevys and we're hicks.

As for the thing about girls and cars... he's not exactly the most, uh, sexy male out there.
His voice needs to go through puberty and he's very flexible in a sick way.
He's one of those people who can make himself into a ball with both his legs over his head and his face
pointing OUTWARD. He can also lick his elbow.

Here's a link... hehe http://www.kenston.k12.oh.us/khs/web_class/pagonis_t.htm
Just promise you won't stalk him. Probably not the smartest thing that I've done in my life...

Spend the 4k on plastic surgery!!:Q:Q:Q

OK ... that was very mean ... I take it back.
But seriously, saving this for a good car would be much better. Take him around for car shopping and test-driving. Maybe you can get this 4k rig out of his mind.

pffffft

whatever!!!
That kid should be able to get girls no problem. Man, appearances aren't everything, not only that, but he's not really ugly or anything.. jeez!
I'm sure he likes girls right? I don't mean to imply that he should like girls as opposed to boys, cause he can like boys too for all I care, but yeah .. there are more important things than computers. This is my suggestion;

An AMD 2000 or a Northwood
Raid 40 + 40
GeForce 3 (or 4 if he really really needs it)
A nice home stereo AMP
Some nice paradigm speakers
Sound blaster Live
512 megs of ram
One or two Samsung or Sony 19"ers (if two, then either get a pci radeon to couple with that geforce, or a dual ATI)
A nice chair (Mr Burns!!!! nooooo) I need a good fscking chair for chrissakes

That right there is a shweeeeet system AFAIC
More than he needs for "I know HTML and web design"
Seriously, he doesn't seem like a bad kid at all, he can get a girl no problem.
What? Are girls only for jocks and gearheads or something? seriously!!! People are made to be together, it's not rocket science, it's fscking natural sh!t.

hmmm... so the kid wants a grand rig.

I say get the Tiger MP with dual XP 2000+ and IDE raid0 with like 2x20gigs and a 100gigor drive for space, 1 gig of high perf pc2100 and a gf4 ti46 or for his multimedia creation probably dual monitor would be nice.. in that case get the radeon 8500, this is sweet with games and aslo supports 2 monitors for more desktop space.

for is web dev and 3d/art animations this will be nice and for games also...
plus is music burning/encoding etc.. etc..

thats probably 2000bux.. and he can save the next 2grand on the next hot thing..

in a few months you'll have .13m amd's (thoruoghbred and barton core's rated @ around 2000-2800+ mhz), wicked nforce boards etc.....

technology advances too fast to save up for the big bang... since the big bang only lasts a couple of months before its serioulsy limited and pale in comparison to whats coming

A nice computer. Maybe the best for now but it seems like the ram thing is strictly for bragging rights. It seems silly how people with the money seem to waste it.

yea its seems he's into animation of some sort though, maybe 3d. half a gig would be good.. but if this is a god box for the kid... 1gb should do it...

I would go with the new special edition WD 120 gig harddrives That have an 8 meg buffer.
They are just as fast as scsi!

Hmm, 2gb ram....what can I say??? When ram was like $30 a stick...I coulda afforded 768mb... but that'd be overkill.... How do you do a
ramdrive anyway? Turn off swap?

Oh, and btw, that is definitely overkill. When I spent around $300 or so upgrading CPU, RAM, video card, etc, I didn't get too much additional
speed over my T-bird 1gig. If I had spent $4000, imagine how stupid I'd feel But oh well, I only spent $300, and this XP1600+ is slightly
faster

Well I will do that right now. Jump on the 1.6a bandwagon and overclock the sh1t out of it. I'd go with rdram myself, but whatever floats your boat. This would be a cheaper system then most suggested, and the overclock would give him more lasting satisfaction then having the fastest computer for 4-6 weeks, whenever the next best thing comes out. Don't blow 4 grand on a computer that will be outdated before you even make it to college.
