Critique my home theater setup

Room isn't the perfect size, so I was not able to fit in the rear center surround. Not sure if I am going to try and stick it up on the wall later. Setup is 65" Mitsu widescreen, Onkyo HTIB HTS-760, and Sony progressive scan. I don't really know what to do with the left speaker, as I can't really move sub around... Any ideas?

Well maybe critique wasn't the right word. I guess I am more just looking for ideas on what I can do with that left speaker so that it's even with the other...

lol... I've seen Apex's setup. I bought what I could afford, and I'm happy with it.

idealy, you'd want the tweeters on the front speakers to be all at the same level as possible. Receivers usually only have time delay settings for distance differences that the speakers are from your ears to the center, front left and right. Build a small stand to fit over the sub to allow it to come up to the level of teh other speaker.

The 760 system should be great; you can always get better speakers if you want them. I have the same reciever that came with last year's version of that kit (TX-SR501), and I love it. Now all I need to do is scrape together the money to get the speakers I want (Athena Auditions - no where near highend, but not cheap junk, either.)

I'd do what TechnoKid suggested and also try and move your subwoofer. Where you have it placed now can't be the optimum placement for the unit. I'd either put it in the back of the room angling off a corner or possibly in the front again angling off a corner.

Ideally, you need a bigger room. Ok for the moment especially for movies. Once you get a bigger room, you need to upgrade your audio setup to match your tv.

I'd definitely suggest trying to get the tweeters on all 3 front speakers to the same level, as TechnoKid suggested.

You also want to move the sub into a corner. Can you move the rack out (forward) and place the sub behind it? It shouldn't matter too much which way it's firing. Another option would be to to move the rack to the left side of the TV and the sub to the right. Corner loading the sub will give you more oomph.

Rears look pretty good as is. I've personally found their placement more of an issue of personal taste. Some people like a more difuse soundstage (and want them higher above the ear). Others like to be able to localize them a bit more. Really up to you.

You could also get a single shelf and mount it on the wall behind your couch and place the rear center on it.

Your speakers are too close together - channel seperation won't be as good as it should be... and try to kep the speakers at the same level, preferably at ear level, or aimed towards it.

Thanks for all the suggestions.. will look into corner loading the sub, and trying to make a seperate stand for left speaker.

You should have spent less on the set up and more on wall decorations

theoretically the best setup is to have the front/center equal distance from the listening position, center should be no more than about a foot above the fronts (like Apex said try and get tweeters as close to level as possible, but in most cases this isn't possible, so less than 1 foot). surrounds for dolby digital should be about 3ft above the listening position (surround effects are not suppose to be localized, so you dont want them blaring into your year. for DVD-A or SACD, your surround position is fine

As far the left speaker goes, you can either:

A) Mount it on the wall.

B) Get a stand for it, and put it behind the sub. Itll force the sub to jut out a bit, but better than having one speaker sit way below the other.
