Just curious. you younger guys can run in the 150's and up, and from what I understand the whole crossfit thing is anerobic by default.

What age do you consider "younger"?

I can certainly tell you that beyond 5 minutes into a workout I'm breathing *really* hard. If I remember correctly, the anaerobic zone is for very short burst work, like a single heavy lift.

Ok, I'm 46 so definitely younger by your definition. But, I definitely still workout at a pretty high heartrate. It's just the nature of crossfit workouts. High output but for shorter periods of time than other workout styles like long runs.

anerobic is when you run out of gas, and keep going on your muscle's stored glycogen.
That sounds suspiciously like....Crossfit?

17.4 - rehashed from last year

As many reps as possible in 13 minutes of:
55 deadlifts, 225 lb.
55 wall-ball shots, 20-lb. ball to 10-ft. target
55-calorie row
55 handstand push-ups

I absolutely crushed the scaled version last year but this will kill me Rx

Last year: 173 reps (8 HSPU) with a 9:18 tie-break. Hope I can hold the same tie break with quite a few more HSPU

I hated this one last year. I got 166 RX last year which I think is 1 hspu but I don't know what my tie break was.

Based on last year's thread it was 12:14.

I did 276 scaled last year. Looking to get an HSPU or two this go round - RX
Tomorrow is the day...

Well, ran it on Friday night and got 186 reps (21 HSPU) with an 8:41 tie-break. Disappointed I didn't get more HSPU but I forgot how terrible they feel at the end of that workout.

Ugh - 163 so I didn't get to try the hspu's

Everyone is saying dumbbell thrusters and double unders. I would hate dumbbell thrusters. They will probably program them at 50# each or something. I can do 100# thrusters but there's something about stabilizing the dumbbells on my shoulders that saps my strength.

My coach was thinking dubs and thrusters too. No ring muscle ups yet either.

I read a breakdown on r/crossfit about all the past movements and their distribution among the different open workouts. The only movements that have consistently been programmed every year but have not yet been featured this year are doubles and thrusters. Blech.

Sounds fun... I still don't have doubleunders down after a year, and I have always hated thrusters. But i'll try it anyway, as least my gym is having a BBQ after.

I have shitty shoulder mobility and appalling double unders. This should be an exercise in managing frustration and trying not to make my shins bleed. At least there is a 40 minute cap...

That was 33 minutes and 52 seconds of utter misery. I'd rather do Murph twice in a row...

Wow! I used 16.5 as a guess for how long I would take for this since 16.5 had 84 thrusters and 84 bar facing burpees which are presumably harder than double unders. I did 16.5 in 18:34 I think. Now, I'm worried that my estimate was too liberal.

People I know that are very good are doing around 10-12 minutes. Looks like I'm going to try to turn this into an EMOM to control my heart rate a bit. Let's hope I don't trip up too badly on the DU.

I'm heavier than my usual weight which is when I start to trip up on DU. I still don't see 35 taking more than a minute each set though. Assuming I eventually break up the thrusters into sets of 5 and 4 with a decent rest I think 20 minutes should be doable.

Ran this on Friday night and got 13:22 RX. Went unbroken on thrusters but the DU as usual got me. I did the first round in about 1:00 but all my other rounds took almost exactly 1:30.

Might try to run it again tomorrow to see if I can get my DU back together but my shoulders still feel pretty beat up.

I tried it on Friday, and had probably the worst DU day in a long time. Not only did I not finish, I only made it to round 6. But I went the whole 40 minutes, the only person to do that at my gym. yay.
