It's not SFP but it's still an excellent HD CRT and the last of its type. It doesn't have the reliability issues of the XBR960 either.

A Plasma TV has the best HD picture quality IMO. CRT is an analog technology, they blur a bit and do not provide as sharp picture as digital (fixed pixel) TVs at high resolution. Only get CRT if you still watch regular low res 4:3 broadcasts.
Resolution is only one aspect (of many) of picture quality. Plasmas do offer good contrast ratios but for the price it's difficult to beat a CRT. As for a CRT being only for 4:3 SD content -- you're pointing out that you really don't know what you're talking about.

Picture quality is a subjective matter anyway. I personally prefer CRT's but plasmas are definitely a close second. Hopefully newer LCD tech will improve LCD displays because they're currently worthless IMO.

My point was CRTs are best at 4:3 SD content, but IMO not as good as plasmas at HD content. Fixed pixel displays in general have a hard time displaying anything that's not in their native resolution.

It's a good price for a good TV, didn't mean to thread crap or start a debate or anything. Couple of years ago when I watched a lot of regular TV shows I would've been all over it.

I have the first gen sony 34" tube the 34XBR800 and love it, yes there is better out there now but I paid $2500 for my set in a world of weak RPTV's, no good LCD's and burn in prone Plasma's. Today I would go with a 1080p set or wait for laser but for the price this TV is a great buy.

A Plasma TV has the best HD picture quality IMO. CRT is an analog technology, they blur a bit and do not provide as sharp picture as digital (fixed pixel) TVs at high resolution. Only get CRT if you still watch regular low res 4:3 broadcasts. That's where it will scale better and have better image. For watching HD content or DVDs, a 42" Plasma hooked up to a really good upconverting DVD player would provide a better image quality. Plasma is like a CRT, but instead of one big boob tube, every single pixel in a plasma is like a little mini CRT tube.

This is a great price for a good 34", I remember drooling over it couple years ago at CC. But personally if you don't watch 4:3 content, I would add another $300 and get myself a 42" Panasonic plasma. You can get those for about a grand from time to time when deals come up.

Ummm you kinda sound like a dumb dumb, I personally compared this unit to sets more then 3 times as much (PLASMA and LCD) I can say with clarity that this set has a lot more going for it then 90% of the sets costing 3 times as much. Oh plus I have the added benefit of being able to hide this thing in a big entertainment unit...I mean only freaking nerds wanna show off a stupid TV anyway. I really hate the way big ole dumb TV's look on a cheap stand in the middle of a room.

mi1stormilst: I bet you were watching SD feed. Either that or TVs in the store were not adjusted properly, which is really common. Anyway, I'm done arguing about it.

If you were done why did you respond silly boy, anyway it was a HD DVD DEMO that each unit was displaying, I am sure you realize your opinion is not the only one that counts.

CRTs still have the best contrast ratio and brightness, and they're the only ones that make lower res analogue TV watchable. OTOH, they have lower resolution, and add a bit of blur, so you won't get full 1080p (or even 720p) out of a CRT. Still, CRTs are an amazing bang for the buck. Thus, I have a 34" Toshiba and I think it's great. Too bad it's 175 lbs though.

I'm thinking of getting my mom a 32" 4:3 Sony. It by far had the best picture in the store in a TV of that size. It too is horrendously big, but my mom has a lot of space at her place.

I wish that deal were good here.

Haha!!!
Wow, my thread's still here.

But yeah, please get em while they're still available.
Coming back from CC, I noticed a used XBR970 with a badly cracked front plate. Now, obviously, noone would buy this humongo piece of junk. But guess what---the picture was unaffected!!! Still gorgeous, amazing contrast, did not see any visible distortion even though the chassis is cracked, maybe from a drop somewhere. And how much?? $400!!!:Q

And don't forget- you still get the XBR 2yr warranty, after which you'll prolly have upgraded to a 60" 1080p anways!

Actually, think small. Look at this power figure quoted above:

Samsung HPS4273 42" Plasma HDTV: 380W

380 watts! Watch that thing 4 hours a day and you'll go through 550KWh a year; that's over a half-ton of carbon emissions.

Are you really retarded or are you just playing stupid? By your flawed logic which equals to about four year old's I should've never made a post saying I was done. God these pot heads with 3 brain cells drive me nuts sometimes.

Oh and BTW, in case you still have hard time comprehending, I am done, and this post is about your retarded ness and not an argument about CRTs.

Haha let me be the first and not the last to say, CRT'S RULE! I love pot heads...they make it easier for me to buy really nice CRT's for cheap to support their habits.

I have a 36" Panasonic HD tube and i still think it's got one of the, if not the best picture around....It's not something you would want to tote to a LAN party but the deep blacks are enough to send goose bumps up your spine
