We just recieved Crucial memory at Best Buy this week. It is CAS2. 256 megs, $49.99, and 512 is $79.99. Didn't check 128 meg. Don't know if this is really a Hot Deal, but seemed to be the most appropriate place to let everyone know.

he mentioned 512, and crucial doesn't have any 512 ddr modules available yet. so he's talking about sdram i'm guessing.

No offense, but if I go directly to Crucial's site, I can buy a 256mb stick of PC133 CAS 2 for $37.xx Seems better to get it direct from Crucial rather than involve another company, especially BB. (I had a bad experience with them, my opinion only)

A guy I know bought a DOA stick of RAM (not Crucial) from BB and they would not accept a return because it had been installed. I don't know what that is all about but I would think twice before dealing with a place that might pull that kind of crap. I sure hope BB doesn't make a habit of this policy.

I've never heard of BB carrying something like crucial, why would crucial distribute to a B&M in the first place? EDIT---Dang my BB location needs to get some then!!! That's a good deal to get quality ram on the day you need it! Mine only carries the generic stuff. Wow some actually carry DDR?

Yes that is a good point. Best Buy never carried quality Crucial ram. I hope this does not mean a degradation in quality. I see it as being positive since I can just drop by my local BB rather than wait for 2 day Fed Ex

that's BS

I work at a Best Buy as a service Tech and we return opened ram all the time as long as its within the return policy (14 days)

I think someone neds to get their facts straight, or someone needs to report that to a corporate office...besides, what do you think the open box items are? something the employees pick up and say "Gee, um, let's have a look-see?" I think not.

Anyway, yes, crucial ram is at best buy, yes it is overpriced (59.99 for a 256mb DDR PC2100 i believe) No it does not mean a degredation in quality....think about that, I'm sure crucial/micron realy wants to ruin their reputation that way huh?

Anyway, this is a hot deal if you have a friend that works @ Best Buy as the employee price for that 256mb DDR PC2100 stick is ~38.60

If you don't know for sure, or you heard it from someone who heard it from someone, don't repeat it, you'll only look like an a$$.

Not that I'm supporting best buy, I just hate too see peple make themselves look stupid when they say total BS or pull things out of their a$$e$

rant over, this is getting locked anyway.

edit (b4 lock): if you want SKU, or exact pricing info, did it ever occour to you that you can go to bestbuy.com

wow, will wonders never cease?

(all jacked off b/c of serious back probs and and abcessed tooth, for which pain meds are doing nothing, and sleep hasn't come in 4 days/nights....if you have a prob with the above, f$ck off.)

the 256mb 2100 ddr modules are the same exact ones crucial has on their site for 45 bucks (same exact part number, just different packaging). best buy doesn't have a decent price on them now, but im sure they'll have em on sale eventually after they test the demand for them a bit. Also worth noting is that bby also is starting to custom order alienware computers? And they are slowly begining to carry better cooling/modding equipment. Maybe they are taking a lesson/beating from Frys

Yeah I saw this when I got in this afternoon too. It was weird, thought a customer had left it in the store for us to install or something. Well, all I know are the we had PC133 128mb sticks. Dunno what else is in stock. Anyhow, I do believe it's prices above the crucial website.

My question is, what will it cost with the employee discount? If Best Buy made a big order before prices went up, they may have gotten a great deal on this RAM.

Sorry, forgot the details. I only saw PC133, not DDR. No, its not Kingston. It is Crucial, in Crucial packaging, with Crucial stickers on the ram. And yes, you pay a little more to not have to wait, and enjoy the benefit of on the spot exchange for 14 days after purchase if you recieve a defective stick.

I am a Manager for BB. If you purchase any computer components or parts, you have 14 days to return exchange. The ONLY way you would be denied a return on an installed item is if it is incomplete, or damaged.

As far as it being some sort of inferior memory, I really don't think Crucial would even consider tarnishing the fine quality brand that they have worked so hard to build.

I will get the SKU's if I remember.

Seems like a good time to pick up these Crucial DDR at the Preferred Customer Sale next weekend.....that way you get them close to Crucials' web price.....59.99 - 10% + no waiting for shipping.....sounds good to me....

At staples we would take returned merchandise and put it back on the shelf. As long as it wasen't returned because it was defective.

caino You a pretty disgruntled Best Buy employee, if I ever saw one. I was simply asking if there was a difference. I have seen plenty of times where a manufacturer will sell one version to one distributor and another to a different. An example is OEM CPU's to OEM's (obviously) and retail ones to consumers (if they want to buy them). And yes the OEM ones do differ from retail, and I don't mean the inclusion of a heatsink/fan. I forgot the exact reason but I read an explanation once about it. I believe the OEM chips are taken from the perimeter and the retail from the center. Anyways, I digress. You shouldn't get so upset about all this. As for getting "facts straight". Who are you to tell another poster they didn't experience or witness what they did? What if I told you Best Buy wouldn't allow me to return something I bought the previous day, never opened, never used? You would take out your handbook and tell me that's not right and I should get my facts straight? You think that all Best Buy's, with all their employees and managers, all act the same way and follow all the correct procedures? I think not.

I went to BB today and I overheard an employee saying that they would be carrying Alienware computers very soon. Not too shabby considering Alienware uses name brand components. I would rather build a computer but for those just starting out it would be a much better choice then Compaq HP, E-machines or whatever crap they are selling now.

Alienware???? Well, as an Inventory Manager I am usually in the loop on new items like that. I would be very surprised to see us carry Alienware. Great computers, but a little out of the client base for BB. As far as 512DDR, have not seen any yet. But, we got some more today-I will take a look.

Well, yes actually. I mean all retail stores follow the same policy. And if they don't all you need to do is ask for a Manager or better yet a District Manager and you will not only get the policy enforced you will probably end up with a nice Gift Certificate or something other free for the trouble you were caused by a store not following policy. And where did you read the CPU facts? Any link? That's the first I've ever heard anything like that, and find it hard to believe.
