I'm sure it would run at the slower speed, but mystified as to why you'd want it to do that.

Well the i9-9900k officially supports up to DDR4-2666 at 1.2v according to Intel. On the boxes of the motherboards, it lists that anything over 2666 is an OC on the Z390 motherboards. I'm not sure if DDR4-3200 will run stable on every 9900k as the IMC is built into the CPU and not the motherboard. I don't want to end up buying DDR4-3200 that really is native Jedec 2400 (according to its SPD profiles) but factory overclocked to 3200 through XMP as I intend to run the memory at 2666 at 1.2v, however if the DDR4-3200 has a native 2666 profile at 1.2v in it's SPD even though the XMP setting is 3200 then I'm willing to buy the 3200. Does Intel say somewhere that 3200 speeds and 1.35v memory voltage are fine for the 9900k?

If I intend to run RAM at the official 2666 of the 9900k am I better off buying the Ballistix DDR4-2666 instead of the DDR4-3200 even if the price difference is not much?

Which motherboard?

IME, ALWAYS check the board specs before buying RAM.

It's only called an overclock because the chip doesn't officially support the speed.

I would be surprised if the ram didn't run fine at 3200 though.

Lots of people run the ram well above the official speed with no problems.

If I had a 9900K, I certainly would want to run the ram as fast as I could get it to run and remain stable.

I'd be pretty disappointed if I only got stock numbers with a Z board.

I would guess that the % of K Intel CPU owners with Z boards who run the ram at stock speeds is fairly low.

I noticed that Crucial now sells DDR4-3200 1.2v non-XMP memory. I assume that this one is JEDEC spec'd DDR4-3200 memory. It has higher latencies than the Ballistix Sport tier but it's 1.2v. The Ballistix Sport DDR4-3200 is 1.35v but has lower latencies. I plan on either upgrading to Ryzen 3800x or i9-9900k sometime next month, depending on what will perform better in X-Plane 11. I will for sure want to get at least DDR4-3200 if I upgrade to Ryzen 3800x. I have $35 store credit at Crucial so I would prefer to buy my next memory through them. Here's the memory I'm talking about: https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/ct2k16g4dfd832a

Should I purchase that one or this one:

If you want 1.2V modules, don't be set on DDR4-3200.

For instance a DDR4-2400 CL16 module has slightly lower latency (so it's slightly faster) than that DDR4-3200 CL22 module. It's also cheaper.

Wow, they have JEDEC-spec 3200 now? Finally! Not sure if I would prefer it if it's CAS22 or something, rather than CAS15 or CAS16.

Does anyone here have the 32GB (2x16GB) Ballistix Sport LT DDR-4 3200 (BLS2K16G4D32AESE)? If so what does it show for the profiles in it's SPD, specifically the speed, timings, and voltage of this memory in it's JEDEC profiles, in the program CPU-Z.

I have some, but have not had the chance to setup the 3900X with it yet. Hoping to get to it tonight.

I can put the sticks in the 2200g system in a little bit, see what the timings are in CPU-Z.

Holy guacamole!, the B350-F loaded the 3200 XMP profile and booted right up...

AIDA64 results, nothing OC or tweaked, CPU at defaults, RAM at XMP profile.

Cannot do a stress test right now because this is the DVR storage and Embry media server box.

Thanks for posting those screenshots. Those screenshot will help me make a better informed decision in which RAM I will buy and I decided not to purchase that kit.

What would be faster in gaming? DDR4-3200 CL22 or DDR4-2666 CL19? I'm thinking about purchasing the 32GB Crucial DDR4-2666 CL19 kit or the 32GB Crucial DDR4-3200 CL22 kit. I don't want XMP-enabled memory. Also does this Crucial DDR4-3200 CL22 kit have a JEDEC DDR4-2666 CL19 profile programmed in it's SPD?

For games, latency is more important than bandwidth.

Assuming both kits would actually run with those settings, first one would be slightly faster in games (latencies are 13.75ns for DDR4-3200 CL22 vs 14.25ns for DDR4-2666 CL19).

But if you are looking at modules with lower frequency, search for lower CAS latency too. CL19 for DDR4-2666 is not that great.

For instance DDR4-2400 CL15 (12.5ns) should be faster in games than both your choices.

Of course, you probably won't notice the differences while playing. Only visible in benchmarks.

I don't want XMP memory though. I prefer to buy JEDEC spec'd memory.
