crucial bx300 seems to be pretty good

Does anybody know if the bx300 SSDs from Crucial are as good as people are making them to be? I'm looking for an SSD for gaming mostly and also 3D rendering. It seems from this review that the bx300 performs on par against the samsung 850 evo. Amazon has the bx300 480gb model for $140 which is $20 cheaper than the 850 evo. Should I save $20 and go with the bx300?

The BX300's peak performance is on average slightly below top-tier SATA drives like Samsung's 850 PRO and EVO and the Intel 545s, and it is outperformed by other 3D TLC drives like the MX300 and ADATA SU800 when they're able to make good use of their SLC caches.

So basically, if they are the same price, get the 850 EVO. If the BX300 is a decent amount cheaper, then go with it. However, right now it's only $5 cheaper ($145 vs $150), so I think the better performance and two additional years of warranty are worth that difference.

I thought that the BX300 was 3D MLC. If so, that's definitely the one to go with over the 850 EVO from Samsung. I have recently had some bad (poor performance) experiences with Micron 3D TLC-based SSDs. (Adata SU800 Ultimate.) Basically, seq. write goes down horribly when SLC cache is exhausted, from 500MB/sec to 30MB/sec. 2D MLC-based drives don't have this issue (no SLC cache either).

The BX300 is MLC, but I'm personally fine with 3D TLC (I know there are others here like you who highly prefer MLC). I have 850 EVOs in most of the computers, except in one of my kid's PC I installed a PNY CS2211 which is MLC, along with a 850 EVO. While it's fast, the 850 EVO has more even performance. That said, if the price was right on the BX300 or even the MX300, I'd happily buy one. I'm still kicking myself for not buying the 750GB MX300 for $99 last Black Friday. All these years later, and no manufacturer has been able to match the 850 EVO performance in the mainstream market.

Considering it uses a 3-core ARM controller... it's more powerful than some consumer routers.
