Crucial DDR just got even cheaper!!

I was just looking at Crucial's site and 256mb of PC2100 is now $59.39! If you use the webpromo discount it is $56.09!! How much lower can it go?!?!

I nearly start crying when I read that....... it's unbeliveable how the RAM prices dropped in the last 2 month.....

I'm kicking myself in the ass now since I went all out and spent $280 on 3 256MB PC133 CAS2 SDRAM sticks in January thinking that the prices will skyrocket any minute. Now they've plummeted even more, and with that extra cash I coulda saved, I could have had a new DDR mobo with 512MB of DDR rather than my old mobo with 768MB of SDRAM.

What kind of a moron would bet that the long-term movement of any computer or hi-tech product like RAM will be in any direction other than downward? You can get upward ticks for short periods of time but the longterm trend is invariably downward. So why is everyone so shocked that prices went down and put up a bunch of posts and replies on the subject?? Prices going up would be a more shocking development....

The main reason why people are surprised is that the Crucial Ram is already damn cheap compared to the market standard. For it to drop further is pretty good news

With a credit card, just buy it from the website. Postage to Oz is high, but better than NZ and much cheaper than store prices

Umm, why are you comparing the price of two different products? If you wish to provide a counter-example to my statement you'll need to provide an example of a specific stick of ram that showed an upward long-term trend in price. Hence, what was the price of a 32mb stick EDO-RAM when it was initially introduced into the market versus the price 2 years after introduction?

Interestingly enough, some products can revert upward in price once the broad market no longer uses them as economies of scale in production can no longer be taken advantage of.

So what if there is EDO SDRAM! Can you not understand the concept either?? You must provide the price of the exact same product at two different points in time. The following would constitute the beginnings of a counterexample to the claim:

Product A is on average $x at some date.
The exact same Product A is on average more than $x at some later date.

Even though the above doesn't constitute a positively sloped long-term trend, I'd best not discuss long-term trends in time series data.

Guess what everybody!?!?! The price of a 1ghz athlon is lower today than it was in January!!! You know what else? A 17&quot; Sony Trinitron Monitor is cheaper today than it was two years ago! Again wow! Computer products generally dropping in price over time is still amazing me even though I've been watching it consistantly happen for over a decade and a half now.

Also, there were rumours back in January period that RAM prices are hitting the lowest possible bottom so the price will hike up.

And yes, sometimes RAM prices do go up.
