Finally made the jump to SSD from a mechanical hard drive. Yes, it's much faster but I still wait on it quite a bit.

Starting up Win7 within VMWare Fusion takes 27 seconds.

Wth?

I don't know if there is some configuration I'm missing, this is after Fusion is already running and I just click the Win7 icon for that VM.

Notes:
Firmware version 9
OSX 10.6.8
8GB RAM
Core i7 SandyBridge 2.2Ghz

You may not have been I/O limited before...then again, what was the boot time before the SSD ?

Worth noting that something like VMWare is likely not gonna be bottle-necked by the hard drive.
I'm not a VMWare user, but something like that should be more CPU/MEM dependent.

How much RAM are you giving the Windows 7 VM? 4 GB would be good.

Check what services and processes run at startup. You might have things like Java doing phone-home checks for newer versions every time you boot Windows.

The dynamically sized virtual hard drive saves a lot of space, but a fixed-sized drive is faster. If Fusion has the disk tools for it and you have the drive space you might change the drive type. I'd only try this after making sure you have 4 GB RAM and no startup junk.

Running VMWare, with how cheap memory prices are right now, you'd be doing yourself a disservice running anything but 16GB.

Did some googling, seems like ACHI is on by default, but only under Mac OSX, and disabled when running under bootcamp. Not sure how running VMWare within OSX would affect things.

For one thing you're missing a good 2GHz of processing speed
