Im thinking of upgrading to PC2700, but seeing how some peeps are successful in reaching PC2400(150fsb) and even PC2700(166fsb) speeds with the same PC2100 modules, i could always use the money intended for buying the new RAM to something more important, say like food.

ANd while youre at it, can you include the settings youve used?Like 2-2-2 at 2.7volts on a s0-so motherboard.

Thanks!

172 fsb with turbo timings on an epox 8k3a+ with 3.2vdimm. Will do around 180 fsb with normal timings and 3.2vdimm.

not bad for $35 pc2100.

The fastest I got was 320mhz with stock voltage using a 3:4 ratio at 120fsb with my p4 1.8 back in march...that was its limit yet the cpu had a lot letf...I sold it and got kingmax pc2700ddr and it got 410mhz ddr...

I may have been able to do 333mhz if I had voltage controls for vdimm on that board...I did adjust timings to their lowest though...

Well thanks for the input peeps. I guess it would be better to check how capable the crucial RAM is first before upgrading. Personally , i have run my RAM as high as 145, but my scsi card doesnt like it, so im running everything at default.

Any more inputs are more than welcome, by the way.

It is done through the bios via the front side bus settings.
Most motherboards have it nowadays, allowing you to adjust from 100 mhz to 200 mhz in various increments depending on the brand and model.
Some even have the ability to adjust voltage to the ram allowing more stability at high speeds.

I'm assuming you guys are all running a single stick? Have you guys had any stability issues while running 2 sticks at... say... 150FSB?

Also, what voltage would you guys recommend while burning them in, and for how long? I'm using BD7II-RAID and it'll give upto 2.8v to the ram.. Thanks!

Mine doesn't even run @ 166 with tightest timing. It totally defeated the reason to unlock my xp...

Looks like some good results, I hope mine will hit 166 when I get my new Epox board.

I got two sticks of 256 MB Crucial ram in July a year ago.
Stick #1 runs stably at 150 MHz with cas 2.5 and normal timings. It crashes after a while at 166 MHz with the most relaxed timings.
Stick #2 runs stably at 166 MHz with cas 2.5 and normal timings.

My motherboard is an ECS K7S5A, and doesn't have any fsb options between 150 and 166, or between 166 and 200. I've no idea if my second stick can do better than 166.

edit: memory runs on default voltage (2.5 V I think).
