ok, just stuck in this crap from Crucial. My comp boots up just fine, then begins to load the OS (either Win2k or ME, happens in both). Sometimes it locks up, automatically reboots...sometimes i'm "lucky" enough to get one of the following messages:
nidrv.sys - error status at 0xc0000221
Windows Protection Error while initializing IOS
ntoskrnl.exe error
MEMORY MANAGEMENT error
i'm hoping that it's something wrong with this specific stick...i'd rather exchange it than return it. after i take it out, my mushkin high performance rev 2 works flawlessly. could it be a compatibility issue in the quality of the two sticks? I did set my bios to rev3, and lowered dram timing to "normal" in my bios.

first of all, are you overclocking? you bought pc133 CAS3. if you are trying to run cas2 like your rev2, then of course it wont work.

"I'm having a problem and don't know what's going on at all! This memory is CRAP!!!!".

Yeah.

Anyway, remoe both sticks, then put one in. Boot up, make sure it's set to CAS3 in the BIOS. See if it works. Try the other stick, try both then. You might just need to reseat, or you have the CAS set to 2.

thanks for ridiculing me...in case you didn't notice, smart guy, that was just to get people to notice the thread...i see it didn't do much good

in any event, the crucial is just one stick of 256; the mushkin is 2x128
the crucial is tempermental....it'll work sometimes and othertimes it chokes up, either automatically rebooting or giving me error messages, so i just removed it entirely
i'm sure that it's at cas3...i've checked and rechecked

err, you're questioning the quality of a deservedly popular brand of memory around here, and you claim it's all for the good cause of manipulating other people.
hope you get flamed.

smart person number 2: i'm not questioning the quality of anything...my thread title was to grab attention. now if you read my post carefully you'd realize that i was aksing the following 2 questions
-is it possible that the muskin and crucial are somehow conflicting?
-is it possible that i got a bad stick?
nothing more...

its hard to construe that you were "kidding" when your problem deals with crucial ram, how am i supposed to know that you are kidding !? jeez. and your attitude isnt helping. its just probably a bad stick. call crucial and have it replaced. nothingmore.

So you are running the fsb at 100 and the memory at 133? That may be your problem right there. I know many boards support this, but it just doesn't work right on some of them and you get errors similar to the ones you've described.

Does the CAS3 run OK by itself? What position is it in the MOBO. If you have CAS2 in the first position it could be trying to run all installed memory at CAS2.

it's on DIMM 4 but, like i said before, with the crucial stick in, i'd run at cas3
also, i have muskin in slots 1 and 2, nothing in 3, and crucial in 4...could this be a problem - having an empty ram slot? i tried putting the crucial in 3, but the bios memory check wouldn't even recognize the extra 256 in this position, so i just slid it over to slot 4.

about the memory at 133 and fsb at 100:
i've had the mushkin for over a year (yup, i paid $400 for it and now i'm kicking myself in the ass) with absolutely no problems...it might just be a bad module

Ok, didn't realize you had the Mushkin running at that before. I paid about $360 for my two 128 meg rev 1.5 sticks a while back so you aren't the only one that's been kicking yourself. But Crucial makes quality stuff too, so yeah, you just must have gotten a bad stick.

theNEOone,

I too am running the memory at 133mhz and 100mhz FSB on my MSI K7T PRO board, however mine is Crucial PC133 CAS2 memory which is 100% stable, anyway all you can do is try different slot positions and memory settings if it still does not work then it get it tested,Crucial tested mine for free when I thought it was faulty(btw it was my CPU) so their support service is excellent.

You couldn't figure out on your own that this might simply be a bad stick of memory? You had to go and flame crucial in your post anyway?

You are suck, you Nef.

I've been using only Crucial for 2 years and I think they're the very best! It must be a compatibilty problem or something. The onlt other brand I would every buy would be Corsair.
