Prices will just keep dropping like that RAM's going out of style, because it is. Just find the best deal you can find today, and don't worry about the price next week.

And for those who bought the Crucial 128meg PC133 cl3, (like me), the price is now $60.34 shipped, down from $66.69. Hmmm... should I pricematch now, or wait to see if it goes lower?

^^^^^^^ THREAD CRAPPING ^^^^^^

No it isn't. We're talking genuine Crucial PC133 not PC100 that is probably a generic PCB with Micron chips on it.

256MB SDRAM, PC133 ? CL=2 ? Unbuffered ? Non-parity ? 7.5ns ? 3.3V ? 32Meg x 64 $170.99

(Uses Montgomery Burn's voice) E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T...

Time to get another 256MB!

jimmygates, I just ordered a stick of the same, price was $161.49 with the 15% web discount.

However, you must use the aforementioned link in this thread. If you don't, you will only get a 10% discount, henceforth the $170.99 price.

Is there really any major difference between CAS2 and CAS3 (performance wise)?
because CAS3 is so much cheaper. And i allready have CAS3 type Ram installed. Is it ok to mix the two types?

CAS 2 is faster, but if you have CAS 3 in your system already you will have to run what ever you get at CAS 3 unless your CAS 3 will do CAS 2. It's the weakest link in the chain arguement. CAS refers to latency of the chips when sending and receiving data. The lower the number, the lower the latency. Many high quality CAS 3 chips will do CAS 2 at their rated speeds. Some will not. You won't know until you try.

From crucial's faq:

What is the performance difference between CL2 and CL3?

Description:

What is the performance difference between CL2 and CL3?

Solution:

CL2 parts process data a little quicker than CL3 parts in that you have to wait one less clock cycle for the initial data. However, after the first piece of data is processed, the rest of the data is processed at equal speeds. Latency only affects the initial burst of data. Once data starts flowing, there is no effect. Bear in mind, a clock cycle for a PC100 module is 10 nanoseconds so you probably won't notice a significant performance difference. Most systems will accept either latency part. However, there are some systems that require either CL2 or CL3 parts. These requirements are built into our Memory Selector.
