spectek select is a division of Micron. Thing that gets me is they only have a 1 year warranty, wonder why.

I went on ahead and spent the extra money for two Crucial PC133 CAS2 256 MB sticks during the special. Have heard good things about the Spectek modules.

Just snipped this from a CNET story from last December about Micron (Spectek is a division of):


"SpecTek, which sells reconditioned memory, saw sales drop to $118 million during the quarter, down from $206 million in the previous quarter. In the fiscal first quarter last year, the division reported $90 million in revenue.

SpecTek's margins were also hurt because it obtains components from Micron Technology, the PC maker's parent company, under pre-existing supply contracts. The price of parts from the parent company didn't drop nearly as fast as the market price, so SpecTek saw a substantial portion of its sales eaten up in costs."

There ya go...reconditioned memory.

Recondtioned means that It possibly had a problem before and they just fixed it and are releasing it.

You can say that the Spectek = Kingston ValueRam = crappy ram

I would recommend the good stuff.. that comes with lifetime warranty..

When you need speed and stability.. quality ram does matter...
