Cruise Ship

Has anyone worked on a cruise ship before? I am graduating soon and have no idea what i want to do...but i really want to travel. Being on a ship and stopping at all the cities I want to see while being paid sounds like a good thing to me. I understand it must be very very long hours and work...but i mean...you get money and your house and food is paid for...

Anyone?

Out of curiosity, how many cruises have you personally been on?

I dont know..it sounds like it would be a great oppurtunity. I am going to graduate soon and I dont really know what I want to do. I will be 23...I will never be this young again and with no responsibility. I will graduate with 0 college debt, no kids, no wife, no car payments, so really no responsibility. I think if I dont take the chance to travel around the world or see some cities at this point I would really regret it. Cruise ship sounds like a good place where i can travel on a contract for 6-12 months at a time, save money, and think about what i want to do.

They dont make much, but it is a cool lifestyle.

I knew a girl a few years back that did this - she was a tour rep; a personal tour booker/guide/conceirge on some higher end cruise line. She loved it for the first few years, but said it got old after a while - she said it made holding together friendships at home difficult.

Man why would you want to work on a cruise ship? I've been on tons of cruises, and when we are going to our stops, we go to the bottom of he ship and the living quarters look so small, and the pay isn't the greatest .

yeah later in life i dont think i would like to live in small quarters...but I am 23..i dont need much..

One of my old roomates lives down in miami. He is in charge of the theatre productions on all of Royal Carribeans ships. He spent a year on a ship as a stage manager before he took the office job at headquarters.

I think it depends on what you do on the ship. I've been on 3 cruises so far (I'm 23). Being a chef/cook at the upscale restaurants or maybe a bartender might be kind of cool, but I'd hate to clean up rooms or work at the buffet.

My dream job is to be a cruise director... or future cruise consultant.

Definitely. The entertainers on ships (musicians, magicians, comedians, etc.) have the best jobs. Not only do they get to perform, but they are usually allowed to mingle with the regular guests, use all the ship's facilities and amenities, and can disembark the ship at most of the stops.
