Those look amazing! Like this one. And this one is absolutely beautiful! And that's all in-game... I wonder what GPU is required to have such quality rendered in real-time at 30FPS+... Bring on HD5870x2 !

Yeah, I don't think any video card is going to cut it for at least the next two years...

Some of those look crappy though. Some of the trees just look terrible and the out of focus stuff can look really bad too, but it's definitely a step up from normal stuff.

So in other words they are finally going to make the games look like they were supposed to.
Those look exactly like the screenshots we got years ago when Crysis was still on the horizon.

Then we actually got Crysis.
If this pattern keeps up the game will actually look more like Quake 1 vs Quake 2 when it comes out.
Improved, yes. But not all the awesomeness we were hoping for.

I dont know why I'm bitching, I am one of the guys constantly whining about we need to stop pushing graphics and start pushing gameplay.
I'm tired. Gonna tell the kids to get off my lawn and take a nap.
Damn kids with their jungle music and clothes and ipods.

How can we distinguish between shots that are Cryengine 2 and shots that are modded Cryengine 1?

Wow!

Those rocks look GOD AWFUL! How can people call this stuff good?

I really enjoy playing C:WH, but this doesn't look like much of an improvement at all. Meanwhile it still needs 10x the GPU power than necessary.

CryEngine 2 was used in Crysis and Crysis Warhead. Right now they are working on CryEngine 3. Nothing new here.

Edit: CryEngine 1 was used in the original Far Cry.

To make this more clear, these are graphics from Crysis. Crytek has not released any screenshots of Crysis 2 besides images of the new nanosuit. CryEngine 2, the engine being showcased here, is the engine used in the original Crysis.

That's because much of the graphical power of Crysis is dependant on the level played. A lot of the levels in stock Crysis have no final TOD and postprocessing effects, which is why many custom maps and screenshots look so much better. They clearly toned down a lot of the effects in the levels while keeping the engine power still there for modders and future hardware.

http://www6.incrysis.com/screenshots/farcry21hurq.jpg Kind of funny. Looks like a FC2 scene rendered with the CryEngine 2.

Looks far better than Far Cry 2.

lol...I'm reading through responses thinking, wait...don't they know this is the Crysis engine, and the upcoming one, CryEngine 3, is tailored for consoles.

Did crytek license the crysis engine to anyone else? It seems like such a waste to have made such a pretty engine with such a mediocre game.

I like many others do like the graphics in Crysis and Warhead, that's for sure, and what I like the most from CryEngine 2 is the polygonal count, it's just really nice and it really shows us what happens when a developer makes a game for the PC instead of the Consoles. But I must say that generally speaking I still think that the textures and general atmosphere in both S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are superior to both Crysis and Warhead, but I think it's also because I prefer the context of the former too, it's just more grittier and worn out looking, it gives a feeling of "things have been happening a lot here before" rather than the "everything is shiny, reflective and brand new" feeling I get when playing Crysis. The one thing I love about CryEngine 2 is the water, I think it has the most near-realistic looking and behaving water in a video game I've ever seen, and we pretty much all know by now how hard it is to find a game with water like that in it, there's probably none other than Crysis.

Far Cry 2 has a dirty, sandy unpleasantness to it that I really enjoyed.

Actually yes, indeed, I agree with you, very good point. I also remember thinking about how good it would have been to get a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game on the Dunia engine, it would have been just superb for that context, but unfortunately, for me, outside of the good graphics and overall atmosphere FarCry 2 was a major disappointment.

Yeah I've always loved the single player in Crysis and Warhead. I had started up a new Crysis game recently and was thinking just last night of starting Warhead up again.

It's pretty nice since I got my 4870 but as soon as I get around to building a new rig (mainly need a CPU upgrade) I'm sure it'll look spectacular.

Those CryEngine 2 screens look excellent. Hopefully they are building the game so that even though it's on the consoles, it will have allow you to crank up details for the PCs that can handle it.
