A drunken Russian sailor in the seat next to you is not a pleasure either :\

And some planes simply don't have a first class...unless those are on a separate plane entirely.

Most of my flights recently have been on Embraer 135 or 145 jets. It's just a cramped little tube with no separations - it's all just coach. I was also on a slightly larger one, something in the 190/195 family. Again, it's just solid coach.
So maybe that's it, the higher-class flights are kept separate. There's not a lot of room on those things for separate sections, or else the difference in first-class/business-class/coach is so minor that I didn't even notice it.
yeah but those planes are used only for short flights right?

If it's not a long night flight I don't really care since I don't have to sleep so the noise isn't an issue.

Benadryl. Pretty simple solution.

My kids travel well though. Hell, on a cross country road trip my son wasn't even potty trained yet, but on the road he took to using toilets just out of the blue, then when we got home he went back to diapers for a while. It was frustrating, but welcome at the same time.

Folks like the OP are special flowers who are being victimized by cruel heartless 1 year olds. We need laws to protect them since they have no other recourse. As they have decided not to have children in their private lives they should be protected from them in public too.
summarizes this thread quite nicely

Or have a well behaved child. My wife took our son to see her family. He didn't even whine the whole trip and it had a layover too. He was 6 months old at the time.

Admittedly I don't have children, but I find it difficult to believe you can train behavior with a 6 month old. They don't have any understanding of right or wrong or why they are receiving a punishment or reward. Seems more likely that you just got lucky and have a baby that doesn't cry.

Once they get older I'm with you, though. Some kids clearly have parents who just don't care.

My son's first flight was at 18 months of age. Were his mother and I stressed the fuck out? Hell yeah but we came equipped with everything we could need. Food, drinks, toys, ipad......

My son rarely gets to watch TV. At 18 months old, he would get to see maybe 1 total hour of television per month. So guess what? When he got grumpy on the plane, we pulled out the ipad. He went right into the zone watching some dumb shows. No crying, no bitching and he eventually would just pass out.

My opinion is that children these days are over stimulated with TV and everything else. Therefore you have no go to remedy for a tired, grumpy child.

Now, I will admit I am terrified of my 23 hour plane rides that is going to happen when we finally go to adopt our youngest son. 23 hours on a plane with a child I just bonded with 1-2 weeks before the plane ride is truly terrifying. He will be about a year old at the time and I will not be clued into his needs/wants by then.

So yeah, if you are on a flight in the next couple of months where there is a 4.5 year old, a couple and a one year old, yep that will be me. And sorry if the baby cries.

You can't but most parents can learn what a 6 month old needs and meet those needs to minimize crying. Toddlers are more difficult because they are just learning cause and effect.

I had a parent change his kid's diaper on the seat across me on the plane.
The smell, the smell.D:

As if he couldn't use the changing table in the bathroom.

I should have picked up the diaper and rubbed his face in it.

Some people really have no shame. You should have spoke up. That is just disgusting and why couldn't he go to the washroom?

Parents should only bring their babies on the plane if it's absolutely necessary otherwise don't bring them. It's not right that other people who pay for a ticket have to hear your baby crying and have their trip ruined.

Haven't flown since 2007, during a connect from PHIL to NH they were trying to hawk "upgrade" to first class for $100 at the boarding gate, not a single taker, it's only a 2 hour flight, who's gonna cough up $100 just for free drinks and a bigger seat for 2 hours, no one...

Funny but really, who in the world want to listen to your fucking baby while confined in a large tube?

Keep it home or sedate it for travel. Or check it in with the luggage. They do it with dogs.

I agree with the first part. The problem is people are too stupid to key into their kid's needs. Every day's a mystery with the screaming box, or more importantly, the pre-screaming situation. Toddlers are easier imo, because they can be trained, and they can communicate their desires better. I've watched numerous kids getting ready to flip out, and their clueless mothers trying to deal with them, oblivious to the signals the kid is giving. People are too lazy to put the work into dealing with kids. It requires thinking, and people don't like thinking.

I have no issues with babies on long haul flights as long as they aren't night flights then I have to resist the urge to beat the parents to death with my bare hands.

Inconsiderate fucktards.

Edit. If an airline banned babies from night flights I would use them even if they cost more than their competitors.

I think I'd rather be hurled from catapult toward my destination than fly in any class, and not because of children of a young age.

Go ahead, ATOT is listening, tell us what your issues are and we will gladly provide free counselling.

Did I mention free of charge?

I guess I should have elaborated. I use a manual wheelchair. Flying is the lamest, most demeaning experience. There's no way to get scanned by a machine, and no way to get to the restroom on the plane. So I can only fly hungry and dehydrated.

(BTW: it's from an old brain injury that only affects my balance, otherwise I'm fully functional.)

It's why I like Family Guy. Lots of white, gay and disabled jokes. I'm a triple winner! See, no therapy needed!

Well, you make a lot more sense now. I never realised people in wheelchair had it this tough to get on and travel on a plane. How do you think the problem could be solved?

Edit:
To qualify, i take care of a disabled person in a wheelchair once in awhile. I do have to take him to the bathroom when required. Is there room enough on a plane's bathroom for 2 people?

Probably. I'm really independent though. I just need a way there. They've made boarding better, you can 'gate check' your chair and they'll bring you in on a super slim 'L' with wheels directly underneath so it fits down the aisle, but apparently they can't keep that on the plane.
