Crying kids in target

it would if it was for a specific thing. But as a grocery store, cutting out your largest consumer base (families) would be retail suicide. There ARE some places you just shouldn't have kids, like movies, restaurants outside the "fast food" category (unless you kids are behaving well), shops with fragile merchandise, etc

What the hell are you talking about? You're saying in that situation you just let the kid go till he runs out of steam?

You punish the kid and/or get him out of there to get him to stop. If you think just letting him keep doing it is the answer.... wow. :roll:

Actually, refusing to give the child the desired attention is one of the better ways to handle that situation. While I probably would've recommended she leave the store if it got too bad, she wasn't necessarily doing a bad job. Surprisingly enough, "punishment" can sometimes inadvertently reinforce behavior.

plenty of stores, restaurants, apartments, etc. in NYC that don't allow kids I love a restaurant in my area that allows dogs (in the patio) but no kids allowed anywhere

Kids who control their parents rather than their parents controlling them are a big annoyance to everyone else on site.
What I do when I'm around and such annoyance breaks out is I try to get as far away as possible.
You should be aware that verbal assault like what you friend did could have gotten him into some serious problems, and I mean
anywhere from being beaten down to getting arrested.

While I give your friend props for that awesome ownage, it was pretty out of line. The mom's disciplinary attempt was good in theory, but she should have taken the kid outside where he couldn't bother other customers.
