So, tigerdirect doesn't take returns. They say to go to xfx for warranty problems. Well, it's the design that's defective, a warranty isn't going to fix that.

Edit: Moral of story, don't buy xfx, and certainly don't buy them from Tigerdirect.

Edit 2: Had to downclock the top 7950 to 650mhz to get it to run at 80c at 60% fan. Hashes 320kh, which is 25%+ slower than my 6950 was.

Beyond frequency, you can play with thread concurrency and intensity. But I find that the biggest lever to keep things cool is the power limit % on MSI afterburner 2.3.0 (not 2.3.1... something changed and 2.3.1 didn't work as well for me). I can get ~1Mh/s with two 9750's at 400W (which is 80W computer + 2x160W for the 9750's) by sliding the power % to -12% and everything stays nice and chill at ~60C in a sealed case with the fans around 50%... and my cards both have low ASIC quality percentages.

Apparently, this crash was mostly the result of a bull trap according to a couple of different traders who have posted on Reddit.

Got my 7790 and am experiencing hassles running it as a second card.

First I tried setting it up in my secondary system alongside a 5870, but the 7790 doesn't seem to be supported by the official drivers yet. I had to use the 7790 12.10 "performance drivers" to get it to even be recognized by the installer. After shuffling the two cards around in the PCI-E slots a few times, I was able to get them both recognized by GUIMiner, but the 5870 gives mining errors with these drivers installed. With the 13.1 official drivers installed, the 7790 isn't even recognized by the system.

After much cursing, I slapped the 7790 into my primary machine alongside a GTX 670 and installed the special 12.10 drivers. I can mine on the 7790 now at 270Mhash. Unfortunately, overclocking the card in this configuration seems to be impossible. I've tried Afterburner, Trixx, and ASUS GPU Tweak, and none of them allow me to OC or even see much of the card's info.

Any suggestions for getting the performance up on this card would be much appreciated!

Plug in a display to that card.

You can try the 13.3 betas for the 7790.

I did try 13.3 beta 3, but they also fail to recognize the 7790.

I will try running my second display off the 7790 and see if I can OC it then. I've got both hooked up to the 670 right now.

I run 3 of them in on 1 board. I used the cd that came with it. you can max the clock and get 300 hash with msi afterburner. so the 3 cards are hashing at 900Mh and pull 240 watts. they run cool. it does seem to have a lot of problems unless you use the cd they shipped with it. when I oc it the memory is 710 the mhz is 1200 the fans are 55% I liked the idea that 3 cards get me 900Mh/s cost was about 435 for the three cards. power is 240 watts. I do agree that they are a bit of a P i t a if you mix them with other cards. I will double check the numbers but the 900Mh/s is correct for 3 of them.

I doubt difficulty will drop at all. It was something like 15X profit over cost of electricity at the peak of value. Bitcoin can drop pretty far in value before mining becomes inefficient and miners quit, around $18/BTC based on my calculations. At ~$70 per BTC difficulty is going to continue to rise, IMO.

As far as I understand it, as long as the network strength increases so does the difficulty. It will only go down if the strength goes down.

Price would only impact that by it turning people away from mining or attracting more.

Pretty useful Google doc here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmcTCtjBoRWUdHVRMHpqWUJValI1RlZiaEtCT1RrQmc#gid=0

Shows difficulty decrease only when network strength was less than previous difficulty adjustment.

I tried plugging my second display into the 7790 in hopes of accessing the card through Afterburner, but of course 2D performance on that monitor is crap while the card is mining.

I think I will just settle for the stock 270 hash until the official drivers support the 7790, then I'll move the card over to my secondary machine and OC it to get 300.

I had troubles mixing my 7950 with a 5830 on my Ubuntu machine. The second card would be recognized, but showed up as Tahiti from cgminer (clearly wrong). When I tried to launch an instance of cgminer on the 5830, the 7950 would start working.

Yeah, that is what I was saying. At $17 per BTC mining starts to reward less in BTC than the cost of electricity used, and miners *should* start shutting down, which can lead to difficulty dropping. But I don't believe we will see those values for BTC ever again, so in other words difficulty is only going up for awhile.

I did sell about a third of my bitcoin at $77. As expected, value has only gone up since then, seems to be my luck, haha.

Hey guys I want to sell some of my LTC to USD. What's the best and easy way to do so? I thought about btc-e.com but the only ways to withdraw money are not trustworthy unless you had 1k+ like western union or money gram.

@arkcom Don't have enough permissions... And so basically do a ltc to btc transactions with the highest price and then transfer cash into my bank with coin base?

Pretty much. Don't know of any other easy way. 6% fee to do paypal directly is pretty high.

Edit: no paypal listed any more.

Got my 7790 and am experiencing hassles running it as a second card.

I have just discovered my poor LTC pool performance, Hardware, lack of memory! I shall share for anyone else new who has the same problem.

Basically my mining rig was modified from an unused 2008 HTPC that had a Vista 32, pci-e slot , E3200 cpu and 2GB ram and 350w 80+ PSU.

I added the MSI R7950 and all was well, after tweaking got GUIMiner-Scrypt running and reporting 630k/hsh.

But every pool I trried, Coinotron, Ozpool, and lastly give-me-ltc (stratum pool) all gave the same problem of never reporting my workers mining at more than 350 k/hash max, often less.

I knew Litecoin mining needs memory but as Vista32 is limited to using 4GB of total memory I assumed with the 2GB fitted and the 3GB in the R7950 that I had 5 GB anyway and it can only use 4GB so pointless adding more unless I install Win7 64 as duel boot.

I was just about to pull the GPU out and put it in my main rig with 4 GB and Win7 64 to try that for mining when I remembered that would have to wait several hours and I would need to install the LTC client and download the whole blockchain on the PC.

So curisoity got the better of be and I whipped out the 2 x 1GB sticks and robbed (well borrowed) 1 x 2GB from my new HTPC and 1 x 2GB from ny daughters Atom Nettop.

Bunged the 4GB into my mining rig, fired up GUIMiner and low and behold the "shares" reported withn Give-me-LTC was wizzing along, over 100 a minute.

Checking with their website and sure enough my niner was wizzing along at an estimated 650k/hsh, which has now settled after an hour to 565 k/hsh.

I still have no idea how having 7GB (4GB system and 3GB GPU) can make it work faster under Vista32 with the 4GB limit but it does.

Next step is to try it under Win7 64 and see it that gives me the full 630k/hsh from the pool.

quick update on the first of 3 hd7790's I purchased to build a 3x card miner. the first card cost me 111 with rebates discounts and selling of a game coupon. it has earned $37.70 april 2 to april 13.

power was 3.52 so net earning was $34.18... $111.00 - 34.18 = $76.82 in 11 days. I do not expect coins to go back to 240-260 but the card is a nice card and may be paid off by june 1.

Are you using Reaper?

Reaper needs a lot of memory (pretty much equivalent to your total GPU memory). CGminer doesn't AFAIK.

talking about bitcoin mining..

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=376065
It seems a malware is traveling thoughout the web which forces you to bitcoin mine.

The file name is iehighutil.exe

i noticed it first on my cousins computer. The reasons he got it were.. well... i yelled at him cuz it almost costed him his gpu.

If you guys do bitcoin mine and u have that malware installed, it will steal workload from you guys. You guys proabably will just wonder why your PPD sucks compared to others.

But i recommend u check your computer, or friends computer for that nasty little malware.

Nope was using guiminer with cgminer backend. I tried reaper backend but that wouldn't start under any settings, probably memory related.

Hoorah I got it working. Only doing 180 Mhash/s but not too shabby. Running on an intel i5-3570 and a radeon hd 6770 on win 7 64 bit.

I don't really want to overclock my GPU since it's a sapphire brand and will probably last less than a year as is - But would overclocking my CPU up the Mhash rate a lot even if i'm mining off the GPU? Temps are pretty awesome too, 56c GPU with 100% fan speed.

cpu is snail like in speed.

you could consider a hd7790. one 6 pin wire for power

it will hash at 300 overclocked and pull low watts 80. I have earned about 37 bucks on mine since april 2

I have this card
