are you using mdi afterburner to control voltage fan setting etc?

try msi 2.3.1 set voltage at .95 core at 900
set memory at 1.5 volts and 685-750
set power plus at -10
set fans at constant 50% it will hash in the 500 to 540 area but power drops a real lot. 50 watts it make up for the loss of hash rate.
manual link below

http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/images/Afterburner User Manual.pdf

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I don't have the ability to change the voltage, gigabyte locked that out with the newer versions of my card leaving that option only for the more expensive ghz edition. I did drop the power to -10% and dropped the mem clock down to 1000 to save some juice. I noticed a loss of ~10 mhash with a reduction in fan speed by about 10%. Are there flags I can use to reduce the load on the card a little? I want to mine but the primary use for this card will be gaming so it needs to last

Thanks!

In my experience, graphic glitches are common with 13.x+ drivers. Try 12.6 through 12.8.

Odd, I uninstalled my drivers and then reinstalled using 12.8 and restarted. Msi afterburner, GPUz, and CCC all show me still running 13.1... any ideas?

The Economist Magazine has a great article this week about Bitcoins. One of the more insightful articles talking about the future. I knew the first half of the article pretty well - from personal experience - but the second part talking about alternative currencies and where this new world of crypto-currencies is headed by comparing it to Napster is really intriguing in my opinion.

http://www.economist.com/news/finan...-may-make-dent-financial-world-mining-digital

Definitely worth glancing over.

On the note of interesting things, another one - which I don't understand - is the ratio of BTC to LTC on exchanges. They are almost tied together.
http://transcoin.net/alltime.html
I mentioned this in the chat at BTC-e and people seem to think that this is all because people think that they should be tied... but it's interesting to me that the line is so relatively flat. It's almost like someone is manipulating it to be like that... Maybe that's conspiracy theory-ish (but, hey, these are Bitcoins... conspiracy theories and bitcoins are like Oreos and milk) but it seems almost too lockstep to be just that people think they should be... you'd think there'd be some lag otherwise.

Having the BTC/LTC exchange is what is really holding them together, I think.

I guess I should elaborate. With the three exchanges on BTC-E, a bot can be programmed to take advantage of any discrepancies in the three ratios which keeps tied them together.

For example let's say I have 10 litecoins

The price on the exhange is LTC- $10 BTC- $100 LTC/BTC- .100

Bitcoin rises to $110 while the other 2 stay the same. I trade my 10 litecoins for 1 bitcoin, which I promptly sell for $110, which I then use to buy 11 litecoins. Rinse and repeat. Rapid buying of Litcoin raises the price, rapid trading for bitcoins raises the ratio, rapid selling of bitcoins lowers the price. Until they all reach parity.

when you get a locked card try to return it and get a different card this one is unlocked.

locked cards truly bite the big one even for gaming they are not that good.

I have a lot of cards I am stuck with 2 locked ones by xfx.

I had to pull the coolers and put these on

Anyone dabbled with Terracoins yet? (TRC). Since the last few weeks they can be traded into BTC via BTC-E. Price has shot up the last 24 hours to 0.00579 BTC. Mines on the same system as BTC, non scrypt.

I have roughly worked out if you can mine more than 9.5 in a day at current prices you would make more than LTC or BTC.

However, the mining difficulty is all over the shop. Coinotron (one of the few pools) has them sometimes at X7 profit vs BTC and sometimes 0.5 ??

I guess it has some dynamic difficultly programming? Anyone done any 24 hr mining tests recently to see how hany on average can be extacted in a day?

Is this one confirmed to be unlocked? Any new PCB revisions that may have done away with that feature?

The problem is if you want to undervolt your mining card. All of my unlocked cards are undervolted and I use significantly less power that way. I bought a locked card and it uses 250W at stock clocks. My other cards use ~200W with higher clocks.

the rig I have the WF in pulls 258W from the wall. its on a 80+ Bronze PSU, the mobo and 2500k and a 4gb ram stick in that.

and I will note he said 'even for gaming'

while I undervolt my unlocked cards, the one I have that is locked is pretty good.

Looks like difficulty will raise from 7,673,000 to estimated 8,565,870 in 2-3 days. Will be interesting to see how it impacts things

That is a tiny increase, no problem at all. Once BFL starts shipping, if they ever do, I'd expect to see difficulty double for a few adjustments in a row. Those will be interesting days.

That is great power consumption from your locked card. My locked card alone pulls about as much as your whole rig. I went from 640W with three cards to 890W with four. That's with a Silver rated PSU.

Actually Avalon ASIC has already two more shipments incoming, so difficulty is virtually guaranteed to go up by 40 TH/s when those hit, even if BFL never produces anything. Also, look at how many people are buying up GPUs or turning on their GPUs trying to GPU mine these days. Some have shifted over to Litecoin because it is more profitable than mining on Bitcoin, but there's a jump in hashing power at both places that can't be explained by ASICs alone, thus it's likely coming from GPUs. If BFL ever makes ASICs and mines for itself -or- if it ships out to customers, I'd expect difficulty to double for several adjustments in a row as well.

P.S. Every increase in difficulty hurts, no matter how "tiny," and I don't think 12% is tiny unless you are comparing it to the ASIC difficulty rise in March. A 12% increase in difficulty means a greater than 12% decrease in net profit if you pay more than zero for electricity. For instance if you were making $11 - $4 electricity = $7 profit, and it goes down to $9.68 - $4 electricity = $5.68 profit, your profit went from $7 to $5.68, which is a drop of 19% in profit even though revenue dropped "only" 12%. These are just example numbers of course, to illustrate the point that profits drop faster than revenue for anyone paying more than zero for electricity.

Yeah, but that wouldn't even double difficulty. At current prices, difficulty needs to increase 6X before mining becomes a net loss for me.

If BFL fails to produce, GPU mining might be profitable for another full year, possibly longer if the price goes back up.

Personally, I have a vested interest in BFL producing ASIC, so I hope they do actually start shipping product soon, but Avalon's ASICs are just too few to completely destroy GPU mining alone, at least anytime soon.

it was unlocked about 22 days ago when they shipped it to me.

as for a locked gigabyte 7970 being good for gaming i have not owned one.

so I should have said most not all locked ones are a problem.

I have had power color
sapphire
msi
xfx
visiontek.

they run really hot unless you unlock them. (when pushed hard)

if bfl is going to tank I hope they do it in a few weeks. I have 69Th on order but I am tired of waiting for them. I may get some usb sticks from asicminer

My Gigabyte 7970 does seem to run hot at 100%, in the upper 60's/low 70's, but thats far lower than my 6970 runs. I don't like the fan rattle but otherwise it seems to be working ok and is mining at 580 mh. I contacted gigabyte about the rattle so we will see what they say.

Out of curiosity, what are others seeing as far as mh and temps go? Mine is running at 1000mhz core and 1000mhz ram (I underclocked the ram from 1350) for reference.

Can't wait to try BF3 at 5760x1200. I know it won't be butter smooth but it will certainly be faster than with my 6970

Too hot. Running 24/7 at temps like that will kill your card in under a year, probably 6 months.

My 7950s run around 78C (83 F ambient) at fan speed 60%, and I still think that is too hot. I ordered some 80mm fans today to hopefully get them below 75C today to allow some OC headroom.
