just lost my pitiful 0.81BTC because I only copied my bitcoin folder over to my external before a reinstall. your wallet is stored in the AppData folder under your user name. you've been warned, don't be a dumbass like me!

All of a sudden the "volatile" market has stabilized around $21 USD. Last week it was jumping all over just about every single day. Price fixing? <shrug>

Well good thing it was "only" .81 BTC. ~$20 loss is tolerable IMO.

Hmm, interesting, there is no way to recover that wallet?

I find it hard to believe that the account and all associated coins can be destroyed in a format.

I think it was probably just speculative bounces after that horrible day where someone moved ~16000 coins on the market rather than in a dark pool.

Hmm I have two machines equipped with good Radeons (5870, 6950) that I could use... why am I sitting idly on my hands!

Some other things I read mentioned Linux, but I saw a screenshot on page 1 that looked like it was from Windows 7. So I can just run this in Windows?

I don't believe so. There isn't any way to use that address anymore to receive payments (they are generated randomly) and my bitcoin software has no record of the 0.81btc I received with it - so no sending them to MtGox.

If it can be done I'm all ears - it's only $16 as said above but still sucks after watching them slowly accumulate

Sure, either one works. Linux advantage- no OS licenses costs, can run headless without needing dummy plugs. But if you know windows and want to stick with what you know it works fine too.

Ah, so the benefits of Linux are really if you're building machines specifically for this task. I'm more or less just thinking about using machines that are already built ( i7-860 + 5870 & i5-2500k + 6950 ) that already have Windows installed. I thought I'd have to install Linux on my old i7 machine to do this... so this is much nicer now!

Wow that was quick. Made my decision of whether or not to upgrade my 5770 pretty easy
