So with MTGox to Dwolla transfers shut down what is a good site/exchange to sell BTC into USD and actually be able to easily transfer the USD into a US bank account? Saw some people on the bitcoin forum recommending campbx.com which still does Dwolla and is US based. Good option? Any others?

Campbx is not registered to do currency transactions either. Try Coinbase, which *is* registered and also has $5 million in venture capital behind it, so they have been paying their lawyers to do things the right way unlike other fly-by-night operations. http://www.fincen.gov/financial_institutions/msb/msbstateselector.html Coinlab and Bitinstant are registered for only one state each, unlike Coinbase which apparently registered in all fifty states.

I have a Extreme4 mobo and one 7950, so you're saying I could add another Radeon 7000 series card to that same MOBO? If the cards are different, then they would operate separately, not as CF, correct?

Since this second card would be strictly used for mining purposes, is there a recommended card at today's price point? Not sure I want to dish out almost $300 for another 7950 since future profitability is so unpredictable and it would take much longer to break even with that purchase.

Yeah, if anything Crossfire can be disabled in Catalyst. I have one 7950 mining 24/7 and the other mines when I'm not gaming. Not sure about what card to buy at this point. I bought the second 7950 because I'm using them in my next build.

yes I have four or five mixed boards.

look for a deal on a hd7790. I have asus sapphire and his all good cards. the hd7790 is shorter then your hd7950 so air will still reach the hd7950. the hd7790 pulls a max of 80 watts and will hash 300mh/s .
it is locked so just

turn down memory clock as low as you can

turn up core clock to max

turn up fans. to 65%

use msi afterburner and use catalyst 13.4

Thanks for the advice guys.

I like the idea of having one card in the background mining non-stop and then having another one for mixed use. Makes me think though, would it be possible to use my iGPU from my 3570k while my graphics card is mining?

if you are doing bit coins most likely yes. if you are doing litecoins it runs hotter cause you need to set the gpu's memory high. other variables are quality of your mobo your cooling . I have gotten it to work on most boards.

Guys, I have a question. I started mining just as a curiosity and I'm not expecting much if any profits. Since it's summer and my computer room is not air conditioned I can no longer mine on my HD7970, but I have a low power PC that has a HD7770 and set that to mine. It is an Asus DirectCU and is virtually inaudible and the heat output is negligible. Naturally, I would like to experiment to extract as much performance as possible. So, what can be done to a 7770 to get a little more mining performance? Or am I better off selling it and getting a 7790?

You could always just underclock and undervolt the 7970 as low as it can go and see how efficient you can get it running.

Larger die size is usually more efficient for compute than smaller die sizes (on the same architecture) when you are trying to get the same performance out of either.

The problem is my 7970 is compeltely voltage locked - neither raising, nor lowering works. I tried MSI Afterburner's unnoficial mode and Sapphire TriXX - nothing. I haven't tried playing with the clock and voltages on my 7770 because until now I didn't need it. I'll try that when I get back from work today. Are there any other ways to maximize mining performance, like using a particular driver version or driver setting tweaks?

Drivers only really matter on 5xxx and 6xxx cards, 7xxx cards don't change much with drivers as long as you have the latest AMD APP SDK.

The hd7790 uses 1 wire is voltage locked pulls 80 watts.
you can set the core to 1150-1200 and has about 300MH/s
I do not know what the 7770 pulls in watts or hashes

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

this chart says about 182 to 213 hash and 83 watts

7770 182 - - 83 1020 640 2.6 PCI-E 2.0 x16 poclbm Ubuntu 10.04 LTS amd64, GPU: 1020MHz
7770 213 - - - 1150 640 - PCI-E 2.0 x16 poclbm Win7 32bit, Core2Duo, poclbm guiminer

so the hd7790 is much better.

all work well 80 watts and 300 hash. I set the core to 1200 I lower the memory to 725

What flags are you using for you 7790's? I've got a few and they are only pulling about 260 hash @ 1175mhz.

Two 7950s at 900mhash draws 330 watts from the wall so the heat isn't too bad

I mine with bitminter simple easy program to use.

settings are different .

pm me I will give you an email with photos of all the settings.

your mobo your psu your cpu your internet connection may affect.

I use windows 7. I use a hard wired ethernet. mostly all seasonic psu's

My 7770 does about 195mh at ~1080mhz/1.15v. You'll have to do your own math to see if the 7790 upgrade is worth it. Both draw little power and create minimal heat. I'd probably just underclock the 7970 to a level where I was comfortable with the heat output. Buying a new card just for mining is risky.

Total system? Are you running 700MHz on each card?
He's probably 0.9v-0.95v @ ~900mhz.

Just curious, with what CPU, and is it stock? I tried matching this out of curiosity, and can't really get under 390 watts, but I have two 7970s and a mildly overclocked 3770K.

Voltage at 0.975, clocks at 785 MHz core and 700 MHz RAM, 40% fan speed. Gives me 900 Mhash, between 390 and 395 watts, and temps of each card max at 61 and 57.

I have an H100i going, along with quite a few case fans, so I think I can get down around that level too. Power is free though so I'm mining away at 1400 Mhash

I agree with your guess as of right now I have a hd7970 system that pulls

145-152 watts and hashes at 490-500MH/s.

my settings are :

.9v @ 900MHz core
1.5v @ 675MHz memory

an intel i5 3470s
an antec platinum 450w
an intel h77 itx board
2 sticks of 4gb low profile samsung magic ram at 1.35V
a crucial 256gb mSata
no dvd
3 fans

this machine is in a coolermaster case elite 120

when it is the winter I crank up the volts and it will hash at 630MH/s, but pulls 275 watts

making it a [space heater] that earns money.

But As far as I know 495 hash avg for a 1 card system at 148 watts at the plug(kill-a-watt) is a worlds record for efficiency.

comes to 3.34 hash per watt when under clocked. 495/148

or 2.29 hash per watt when overclocked . 630/275

I'm at 098x mv @ 900/1500 and I draw 450w with the monitor off at the wall on a two year old gold hx850. That's 1100 kh/s.

Ohh I see my error, you're mining BTC aren't you?
