Just got my first summer power bill. 641 usd! that hurts.

I earned 11 coins so 11 x 90 = 990 - 641 = 349 profit. Now it is more like 550 profit since a normal summer bill is 200. But I now have an idea as to what my power use will be if I run gpus in the summer. 600-700 usd. I am so close to over with gpus. I think I will carry on day by day.

Damn, GPU mining appears to be impossible now. Even considering only the GPU power draw, the GPU's I've tried in the profit calculators show zero profits.

With Bitcoin becoming almost unprofitable at this point I've switched to LTC. I've got everything working but mining for LTC sure seems to be finicky. I'll set it and a couple hours later the computer will restart or sometimes one of the miners will go down to half speed. I've fiddled with the voltage on my cards but it doesn't seem to make much difference.

Right now I'm running the following clocks and voltage:

7970 #1 - 0.949V 925/1550
7970 #2 - 0.968V 925/1550
7970 #3 - 1.000V 925/1550
7970 #4 - 0.949V 925/1550

I'm pulling about 900W from the wallplate so I don't think my 1050W PSU is the problem. The LTC calculator says I should be earning ~3LTC per day but over the last 4-5 days I've got like 5LTC. Really frustrating to say the least.

Anyone experiencing the same fussy behavior with Litecoin mining?

Which miner and pool are you using? Separate miners per GPU? Combined? What are your hash rates?

I've also been having some odd behaviour lately mining on WEMINELTC. CGMiner just exits randomly sometimes, and it's not the GPUs...they seem to not have crashed. Temps seem fine also.

I'm using Guiminer with the cgminer scrypt. I was using Mine-LTC.com but decided to try Coinotron.com to see if the pool was the issue. I am also using a separate miner for each GPU.

Hashrate varies between 570 and 640 depending on the card which is weird in itself because they all run the same clocks.

The randomness of LTC mining makes me want to be done with mining all together. BTC was nice because it was easy and predictable to use and offered more options to cash out.

Are all your cards the same?

Litecoin is very sensitive to card manufacturers cheating in their bios and also the binning of the VRAM.

Gigabyte and XFX cheat super duper hard in their BIOS, and therefore get very low hash rates in litecoin.

Also turn off crossfire. Litecoin needs lots of ram. With crossfire on the ram on your master card will be shared by all your cards.

This can actually be a boon if one of your cards has way better ram than your others, but make sure you don't run out of ram.

I had to completely reinstall Win7 when Guiminer hosed my video drivers, no amount of uninstalling and reinstalling would fix it, so my Litecoin experience didn't start off well. The default settings they use in Guiminer are not optimal, and it crashed my PC a few times.

Thread concurrency is probably the biggest variable in getting the most kH/s (at least I found). You have to experiment a lot to find which number works best for your card. Each card could have a completely different value especially between manufacturers, it's kind of strange voodoo. When I was experimenting and set thread concurrency too high it would bomb out my PC, and have to do a hard restart.

You might check what numbers others are running here. It helped me get a respectable k/hash on my 7850. I can run a shade over 400 kH/s maxed out, but backed it off to a little over 380 kH/s because it's more power efficient.

Weird. I thought the cards would run the same like with BTC mining but if the vram has different latency settings for different manufacturers, that would explain some of the weirdness.

I do have Crossfire turned off because Afterburner doesn't work with it on.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to play around with the cards to see what works. I'm still deciding how much tinkering is worth it. If I can earn as much as the calculator is estimating, it would be worth my while. But if I keep having to mess with crashes and LTC fussiness, I think I'll just sell a couple cards.

In theory, I should have a new miner setup tomorrow. No more of these silly inefficient GPUs. If everything goes as planned I'll post some pics within 24 hours.

The only pools that paid me the full amount that I have tried have been pooler's pool (litecoinpool.org), and nicksasa's pool (notroll.in) [now defunct].

All the other pools don't pay out in full for whatever reason, probably because of massive inefficiencies.

The reason pooler's and nicksasa's pools work so well is because they are literally litecoin developers lol.

Also, its not just memory latency settings.

GDDR5 error checking also factors in, which is why I stated binning matters alot.

Some manufacturers have their bios set to not actually go over a certain core speed when over a certain card power limit that is unrelated to the AMD reference settings.

They also don't report this behavior to the driver or Afterburner.

My XFX, from testing, will limit anything over 925 core when mining litecoin, and would also crash my whole computer on purpose (not video driver crash) as it's failure mode when it's VRM overheats.

Yikes on the prices! I'm glad I cashed out my final stash at $105 last week.

With BTC at $70, I'm not even remotely tempted to turn my miners back on.

please let us see some asics!!

at birthday monkey at 74 usd a coin my 7.2 gh gpu farm makes 1.34 usd a day. not counting my ac cost which is 3-4 a day so I would be losing 2-3 usd a day if a continue to run my gear. my only hope is my cloudhasher contract which is for 7 gh and is supposed to pay off in july. me thinks they won't start until august. meanwhile I will need to list gpus on the bay starting on monday.

At this point the slow slide down feels a lot like the one in 2011. Price could continue to gradually fall for a year or more before recovering. Of course it's possible price will never recover, but I doubt it. There are lots of real companies now with millions invested in bitcoin, they won't let it die so easily, though I could see a worst case scenario where bitcoin go all the way down to $10 each or so, I just don't think it's likely.

If I had to take a wild guess, I'd say $50 will be the bottom, just because that is where the original crash briefly touched before moving back up.

I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. It sucks my bitcoins didn't jump up to $15,000 each so I could retire, but now maybe the mining competition will start to die off and if bitcoin value drops low enough I'll simply buy a few hundred of them.
