Watch out everyone, I decided to power up Cudaminer on my SLI 680's

320KH/s!! I'm in the money now.

two 680's hashing less than 1/5th of what the two 290's will do when I get them thursday. lol

You should be getting around 200 with each. I know for Radeon cards, mining without crossfire almost always gives better results. So, if you want to try to get a 30% boost, try disabling SLI.

Just got my 7970 delivered today. Without doing much research I'm guessing they are garbage like the XFX's or something....

Attempting to set it up on Xubuntu, but TBH if it takes longer than 2 hours I am just going to go with Windows again.

Why is it my GUIMiner-scrypt alpha says my hash rate is ~577 kh/s, yet my Coinotron account is only reporting <150 kh/s? I'm mining LTC btw.

Go by what the GUIMiner app reports. Most of the Pools will tell you that their reporting of your hash rate is not very accurate.

So I'm trying to setup cgminer but I can't get it to work.

Here is my bat file (user & pass changed):

However, when I open it, I get this:

Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Something tells me AMD/ATi will have a very good 4th quarter.

*Checks AMD stock*

Damn, it still hasn't followed the price of LiteCoin yet.

I find it funny that right now 1 LiteCoin is worth 10 AMD stocks.

@snowboarder33

Seems incorrect user/pass info from the error message.

Are you using the user/pass of the worker account and not your master account user/pass?

For example, with wemineltc.com, your master account could be the following:
user: snowboarder33
pass: 123456
That's the password for the master account.

However, your worker accounts, what you log in with on the bat file would be the following:
user: snowboarder33.1
pass: 1
You can see that it appended a ".1" to the end of your actual username. It also uses "1" as the default password. You can create more worker accounts. They'd be "snowboarder33.2", "snowboarder33.3" and so on.

So in your bat file, the user/pass you are using would be "snowboarder33.1" and "1". It would not be "snowboarder33" and "123456". And it's ok to have a weak worker password. If someone wants to use your worker's username and password and mine for you, who are you to complain. Make sure your master account password is very secure though.

Good call! That was exactly it. Thanks much!

Bummer. I was hoping to see an improvement in my hash rate by using cgminer over gui, but it is about the same, even lower actually.

What GPU are you using and what is your hashrate?

You might just have to tweak your settings a little bit in order to see an improvement.

The reason I did not like GUI was because the hashrate was almost never updating itself, it would always stay the same. Also, you can change your settings on the fly through cgminer... anything from the bat file commands to the GPU/RAM frequency/voltage, fan speed, etc...

because the OP is very, very old...

1)Are the links still relevant?

2)Where is the most recent guide explaining how to set everything up, what to download, where to register, etc, etc.? I need both the nVidia and AMD guides.

Thanks.

how in the world has bitcoin not been subjected to hacking? You'd think this would be ripe for market manipulation...if you can even call it a market...

Is 95C too hot for a 7970? CG miner says the top card gets this hot but the bottom card is 75C. What's strange is I've seen the top card hover around the 75s when mining before. Why the 20 degree difference, do you guys ever see wildly fluctuating temps? (assuming same settings & ambient temps)

The top card (the 7970 Vapor-X 6GB) is only doing 600Kh/s, while the reference 7970 is doing 490Kh/s. I have both clocked to 900/1500.

GCN architecture I think. Someone correct me if I am wrong

Kepler's hash performance is much weaker than GCN's due to some missing integer instructions - NV appears to not focus on this use case, or didn't when they were designing Kepler.

What's its voltage? If it's clocked at 900, you can undervolt a lot to save on power.

I haven't played around much with voltage yet. What util do you use?

I'm confused about having several monitoring apps (Afterburner, Trixx, CCC Overdrive etc.) When I launch one, it can reset or change whatever settings I had before so I'm never really sure which are the actual *current* readings.

The only times that I've seen that is with one particular card that could crash, reset to its default clocks and voltages but still continue CGMiner, and with another cards whose fan suddenly stopped responding to the fan control and ran at RPMs meant for when the card was idle.

I find the most recent beta versions of Afterburner will work on almost 7970/7950 that supports voltage control and its voltage monitor readouts are accurate.

Just wanted to come back in here and post as maybe someone else with a 290x is getting crap results. I managed to find the best settings for my card and hopefully this will help others as well.

Getting an average of 880kh/s with the below settings.

Running a Sapphire 290x BF4 Edition. Ultra Bios setting. 927mhz on core 1500mhz on memory. Power limit 50%. Stock voltage. I am on water with 0 throttle. Set your fan accordingly to avoid throttle.

--gpu-engine 927 --gpu-memclock 1500 --thread-concurrency 32750 -I 19 -g 1 --worksize 512 --lookup-gap 2 --shaders 2816 --gpu-powertune 50

I also use CGWatcher to keep track of everything and give me a few additional options that I use. I have not noticed any sort of performance hit running this so should be ok.

Just a note it seems some people are getting a blank screen running cgminer this is ok simply add -T at the very end of it and it will still function perfectly fine.

Yeah... pretty much. They also need to take the (freely available) Litecoin or Bitcoin source code make some changes to things like the product name and coin image. A lot of the coins also make tweaks to the confirmation time and number of coins in each block to make themselves look "new". Recompile the source code, launch the new binary, and announce it to the world as the next big thing! It's not all that hard for a skilled developer to do... I'm amazed that nobody has come up with an AnandtechCoin yet

You don't even need a different miner program for many of these coins, since they use protocols as Bitcoin and Litecoin.
But how the heck do you start using them (making others do) for trading? I mean they have no value whatsoever. It's just pixels...

I have 3.0 beta 17 installed. I can adjust voltage for the 3GB card, but not the 6GB one - it's greyed out. Trixx can adjust both cards' voltage, but I've found it to crash my system (hard lock) from time to time.

I'm using a Sapphire 7950, overclocking with Trixx.

Core: 990, Memory: 1400, Voltage: 1.1

Intensity: 19
Worksize: 256
Concurrency: 10,496

Produces about 575 kh/s in GUI. One odd thing, when I change intensity to 20, the hash rate drops to under 500.

In cgminer, I realized I was only OCing to 990/1300, so that might explain some of the discrepancy. Also, the concurrency was 24,000. I can try 990/1400 in cgminer when I get home from work today and see if that makes a difference.

I had to do a lot of tweaking to get my dual 7870s to perform like they performed in individual rigs.

I found the best results when I take just about everything out of cgminer bat file and just leave the intensity on there (which I can change on the fly).

Here is what my bat file currently looks like:

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
pause
cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://us3.wemineltc.com:3334 -u nwo75200.2 -p 1010 -I 17

Try to take all other commands out of cgminer (you might want to leave your card clock speeds in there). CG miner is pretty good at adjusting the rest of the settings over time. I was initially getting only about 300kH/s per card and after a while it climbed back up to the normal 375kH/s per card.

Interesting, I've never tried a 6GB model for mining.

So still 80+C? That seems extremely high, at comparable clock and voltage settings my top 7970s are usually in the low 70s with an rpm between 2500-2800 RPM.

What's the fan's RPM? Or perhaps one of the fans has malfunctioned.
