What would be less of a gamble for a beginner - Hashing Bitcoins with your PC (providing you have unlimited Hydro) Vs Buying and Selling Bitcoins then cashing them say to a PayPal account or Play Bitcoin on the Stock Market where the Gov't would Tax any profit?

Ugh I sold 41 LTCs at like $9 literally within 24 hours before it jumped to $30+. Now I had the chance to sell 5 at $35 but thought I would hold out for the $40 mark again and it then drops to $20. I 'm terrible at this.

I sold about 150 on November 7 at $3.50.

Now is the time to get into feathercoin, possibly. Difficulty is very low, though they are only worth less than 50 cents, you can mine one with a 290 in less than an hour, and they could jump up a lot later.

Seeing Warren / LTC dev and Bushstar / FTC dev trade comments HERE, doesn't exactly get me excited for FTC mining.
I don't want to comment too much, since it would obviously just end up steering the thread OT and be nothing but just my personal opinion anyway.
It doesn't take much googling to see what was being discussed and draw your own opinion.

Too lazy to go through hundreds of pages of posts but I got a Sapphire Vapor-X 7970 Ghz 3GB. Card runs at 1050 core, 1500 mem. Was getting in the 500's khs. Flashed BIOS using a Sapphire Dual-X BIOS. Upped the core back to 1050 and the mem back to 1500. Now getting in the 700's khs.

Used this BIOS.
Link to ATI flash utility.
Link to Rufus, a bootable USB creator.

**WARNING: Not responsible if you brick your video card.**

1. Download the Sapphire Dual-X BIOS, ATI flash utility, and Rufus USB.
2. Use Rufus and create a bootable USB stick.
3. Copy the BIOS and ATI flash utility into the USB stick you just created.
4. Boot your computer from USB stick.
5. Type in "atiflash.exe -i" without the quotes then hit return. This will show you the Device ID's of your cards.
6. To flash the BIOS, type in "atiflash.exe -f -p 0 bios.rom" and then hit return. If you have multiple GPU's installed, change "0" to the correct Device ID. Change "bios.rom" to the name of the Dual-X BIOS you just downloaded.
7. When done, reboot and your Sapphire Vapor-X should now be listed as a Dual-X.

Go into ATI CCC and you can safely boost the GPU core and mem speeds back to 1050 and 1500 respectively. Test mining. Should be in the low 700's compared to 500's before the flash.

Hope this helps someone.

**EDIT: Spelling mistakes**

That makes no sense. You are running same frequencies, so how can you get so much more performance out of it?

Curious, I wonder why that is. Maybe latency changes or power tune/throttling changes.

As for other alt coins, it would make sense to me to stock up on some of each, hoping that they increase in value. Right now both LTC and FTC mining are still quite profitable. Imagine the profit when your coins increase in value again, if you hold on to at least some of them.

What BIOS did you originally have?

I have the 6GB Vapor-X and I'm only getting 500 khs with 900/1500. I have this BIOS version which has powertune limit of 170 to 245, while this one has 195 to 281.

I don't know. Not knowledgeable enough about the inner workings of the GPU and the settings in the GPU BIOS to know why. Basically I was researching why everyone else seems to get in the upper 600's or mid 700's with a 7970 Ghz card while I only got in the mid 500's. Came across some info to try flashing the Sapphire 7970 Vapor-X Ghz to a Sapphire 7970 Dual-X.

The default speeds for the Dual-X is 925 core and 1425 mem and the fan speed settings seem to differ slightly but I changed all that to match the original Vapor-X settings using ATI CCC Overdrive settings. Temp and noise levels after the Overdrive is pretty much the same as my stock Vapor-X.

Just a note, I did try flashing my 7970 to the Sapphire Vapor-X 280X BIOS but that was only getting in the mid-500's. I'm going to assume that all Sapphire did was change the name on the BIOS and packaging to 280X. An internet search on the Vapor-X 280X shows it has the same exact VEN and DEV ID's. Don't actually have a 280X to check. If you got a Sapphire Vapor-X 280X, might want to try the Sapphire 7970 Dual-X BIOS for mining.

What BIOS did you originally have?

I have the 6GB Vapor-X and I'm only getting 500 khs with 900/1500. I have this BIOS version which has powertune limit of 170 to 245, while this one has 195 to 281.

My Vapor-X is 3GB, not 6GB, but I was using the original Vapor-X BIOS when I was getting in the 500's khs. Here is the link to TECHPOWERUP's Sapphire 7970 BIOS collection. It does show 2 other 7970 BIOS's with 6GB memory.

When I was researching, I was specifically looking for info regarding the Vapor-X 3GB and not 6GB. Plus the fact that others had tried the Dual-X BIOS on a Vapor-X made me a little more confident I wouldn't have a brick on my hands. Kind of a "buyer beware" situation with those other BIOS's.

You just stop and start again when you don't play. I don't understand the question.

If the card is in the middle of mining can i pause the mining process play a few rounds of bf4. And once i am done playing hit resume on the mining?

Does it start over for a one coin, or resumes the work on the old one? I am not sure if thats more clear.

I don't think you understand how it works in the slightest. You do not mine for one specific coin. You don't even mine for a coin at all. Your PC works on some data that don't seem to take that long to process and sends them to a server. I have no idea about bitcoin, but it should be similar to litecoin, where it takes roughly minutes per "piece".

Yeah i am not sure how it works. I take is similar to F@H.

Your gpu is being used to compute something, and you get the coins as rewards for providing the computational access.

To answer the question in a simple way, it is very easy to start and stop. Just press start/stop No need to save or get to a certain point, afaik. Its pretty easy once you get your settings/flags set up.

Cgwatcher can be easily configured to stop the miner when you run specific programs.

where are you guys mining? I'm currently in netcodepool.org and I'm not terribly satisfied with the results after 3 days. I need some advice on where I should go instead.

Using Guiminer

I have been using wemineltc.com for a little over a week now. They seem pretty legit, have no donation requirement (aka pool fee), and they have helpful chat and forums.

That is correct. You will have to wait a bit before it updates and catches up so you can use your wallet.
So according to this it says CinnamonCoin is the most profitable.
http://www.wheretomine.com/

But not sure where I would exchange CNC to BTC. Am I understanding this correctly?

What the....

With my 100kH/s 4870 or i7 4770k I would be earning nearly $20 per day with CinnamonCoin... Doesn't sound legit to me.
