People are selling and buying dogecoins in large quantities.

The going price is anywhere from $1.5 per 1k to $2.0 per 1k.

I'd say $2 is a bit optimistic considering DODGE/LTC is about 18k (let's say 20k for simplicity purposes) doges/1LTC and LTC is ~$20.

But its usability as currency goes up. Look at the USD for an example of how printing money isn't necessarily a bad thing (at least, for now).

Exchange rates represent something different from the money supply or inflation, although inflation can have an effect on exchange rates. Exchange rates are affected by supply and demand for the currency. For many altcoins, the demand for the coin is not for the exchange of goods and services, but rather raking in more fiat currency than one started with, which not different from old-fashioned forex trading.

So has anyone managed to mine Vertcoins? Still can't get it to work. It's so frustrating.

Did you see my response to you on the previous page? What settings have you tried?
I was trying to set it up last night and eventually gave up because it wasn't mining. I use CGminer with CGwatcher so I downloaded the modded CGminer in the OP and just replaced all the original files with all the zip files in my E: \Cgminer folder. Modded the configuration file as well with the appropriate changes (proper pool and lower thread concurrency) which are not seen below. Started CGminer it just didn't work.
Code:
{
"pools" : [
	{
		"name" : "Dogecoin - Suchcoins",
		"url" : "stratum+tcp://us.suchcoins.com:3333",
		"user" : "xxx",
		"pass" : "xxx",
		"pool-priority" : "1"
	},
	{
		"name" : "Foxcoin - Luckyminers",
		"url" : "stratum+tcp://stratum-eu.fox.luckyminers.com:3333",
		"user" : "xxx",
		"pass" : "xxx",
		"pool-priority" : "0"
	}
],

"scrypt" : true,
"gpu-threads" : "1",
"intensity" : "16",
"lookup-gap" : "2",
"thread-concurrency" : "24000"
}

I will post my bat file settings when I'm at home. Try with a clean folder though...don't have any files in the folder into which you place the modded cgminer files into, not even the config file. Also, which type of cards are you running and what TC did you try with those cards?

No go. Modded CGminer folder with no original files by itself. Here's the configuration file:

Code:
{
"pools" : [
    {
        "name" : "Vertcoin",
        "url" : "stratum+tcp://s.ny.vertco.in:3333",
        "user" : "xxx",
        "pass" : "xxx",
        "pool-priority" : "1"
    }
],

"scrypt" : true,
"gpu-threads" : "1",
"intensity" : "16",
"lookup-gap" : "2",
"thread-concurrency" : "19712"
}

Edit: Works now. Don't know why, but not complaining.

True but the news is recent and the night is young.

I'm not really in this cryptocurrency thing for the speculative qualities of it but rather because I happen to find it a very futuristic and novel concept. As such, I'd love for one of the horses in this race to come out ahead a winner based on the strength of its qualities as a currency, rather than on a fragile bubble fed by the greed of a few deeply invested in its success.

That said, it's quite hard to talk some sense into human nature when human nature didn't use sense to get into a state of panic it set itself into in the first place. When the people who made millions and millions of dogecoin investment out of the idea that it will one day become the bronze to btc's gold and ltc's silver decide to pull out, it will be interesting to see whether there are enough people with foresight to keep the currency afloat even if they technically have the right idea. Really, it's not their fault, it's just that everyone else who are either wrong or don't care far outnumber the former.

After all, most of the folks who invested in a currency named after something as ephemeral as an internet meme, deep down probably didn't really expect it to succeed and would rather do so to make a profit on its back while they can and get out as soon as it isn't auspicious enough a platform for mining and day trading anymore. Either way, qui vivra vera; as with all things, there's a chance it might go both ways.

5B Dodge over one year is minuscule, 5% pumped into the system. Minus whatever thats gone from lost wallets (due to whatever reasons, of which there are many), and it becomes a small % inflation year on year. At least that inflation is due to the people mining it, rather than some arbitrary injection or printing of fiat in whatever amount is deemed required by some central authority.

I'm not fussed by this decision. It's only been two months and we already have nearly 45B coins mined. 5B mined over one year is gonna hurt it?? Nah. I bought heaps of Doge last night when it fell to 135 Satoshi, that is simply a bargain IMO.

Anyone got problems mining VTC right now? Mine isn't even mining. Period. It stopped mining again and I suddenly have stale shares and the modified CGMiner died. Ugh. At least I know my configuration is set up properly.

Try a different pool. I saw in the VTC settings thread at bitcointalk that someone was having weird issues which went away after switching pools. I'm at ecurie.io and everything has gone well so far.

Theses are just prices that DC has been sold on /r/dogemarket

Also the average is usually $1.70.

Doing cryto to cryto to USD is always a bad way to translate price :whiste:

Hmm, Vert is like the only new altcoin in recent times amongst all the spam and clones to be unique (NXT is still a pyramid scam!).. one step ahead of big ASICs, which are scheduled to roll out in a few months. Could be huge.. pull the trigger?

Edit: Threw a BTC at it, now its going towards 0.01 BTC just last night it was "only" 0.002 ... gawd.

Kitteh seems to be on the rise again. I committed .1 BTC at .00000040, now it is at .00000068. Yes, yes. Rise, my kittehs. May your relaunch and listing on the other exchanges be fruitful.

Actually, most central banks do inflation targeting at around 2%. 5% inflation is actually high, but no suffers because no society depends one DOGE for all transactions. But people will cry foul over their loss of purchasing power even though the small percentage of inflation gives a little flexibility to businesses to pay of their debts.

Yep I fully understand major economies target inflation around 2.5%, the 5% Doge inflation is not real because a lot of Doges are sent as token gifts for deeds, lost in wallets of non-geek users (really would most Doge tippers even realize to backup their wallets??).. I would not be surprised if 1% or more is lost every year, never to be recovered.. laying dormant on old harddrives in landfill or broken dead PCs.

What's a good VTC pool? Seems like I missed the boat on buying, but I wouldn't mind throwing one of the rigs at mining some (unless the difficulty is through the roof).

/r/dogecoin and /r/dogemining have a lot of tippers. Most of the time, it'll end up lost forever since people don't care for them and such. However, they're usually in small amounts.

Also, there was recently drama over a subreddit concerning dogecoins, read it here

I dunno, when it comes to "real" money, people get serious about preserving those assets. Right now, folks might be careless since it is "virtual", but if Doge becomes a serious medium of exchange and people realize that it is risky as cash in many regards, they will quickly become very protective.

Stories like that guy who mined Bitcoin and accidentally threw away the hard drive will become the exception as awareness of these cryptocoins grow.

What is a good exchange now to sell BTC for USD and easily get it into a US bank account? Been over a year since sold any BTC.

Has anyone tried mining on 14.1?

I just tried them and I lost 25Kh/s

amd-driver-installer-13.35.1005-x86.x86_64.run (14.1) ~450Kh/s
amd-catalyst-13.11-betaV9.95-linux-x86.x86_64.run ~450Kh/s
amd-catalyst-13.12-linux-x86.x86_64.run 475Kh/s

also 1fps slower in unigine valley.

Jeez VTC is going for 0.0129 BTC on Cryptsy, that's almost half the LTC/BTC exchange ratio.

Odd thing is it's like 40% higher there than other exchanges too...
