I use CCC on all three of my miners to watch temps. Are you saying this slows down the process speed?

That's what I read over in a bitcoin forum where a guy was having problems getting memory to underclock, and the culprit was thought to be CCC for this and other issues the guy was having.

I no longer believe that CCC was the issue as my problem has returned. I really am confused now. Immediately after I uninstalled CCC, Afterburner allowed me to underclock mem to 325. Now after a reboot it inexplicably is back to this minimum of 500 for the memory clock, so I have to stay above to keep things stable.

Unless someone else has a suggestion on why this is happening to me, I'm just going to leave it alone. The heat difference wasn't too significant, and with a stagnant exchange rate this isn't likely going to be profitable for me much longer anyway. Too bad, as I've only just started!

So... anyone have any suggestions for me?

Running a single Sapphire 5830 extreme at 980/605 and getting about 295mh/s.

That -f128 flag you have slows you down a good 20 or so mhash but makes the computer usable (except for flash video on mine, then it crashes). Remove that flag if it's not your main pc to get the fastest rate.

Rather than remove it, changing it to -f0 is best AFAIK. Thanks for the reminder, I've updated the OP to make things more clear for newbies.

Interesting. I had left mine as -f1 just for the heck of it, maybe I'll change it to -f0

When you remove the f flag it just goes to the default, which is either 20 or 30 I think.

Its strange. I can play wow with GUI miner in the background. My Mhashes go down but I don't even have to bother with closing it.

When you're mining, your GPU is solving blocks. What is it really solving? Is the power you're contributing doing anything? Is it doing something like folding proteins or anything? Or it's just mindless waste of GPU power to get $$$?

you'd get a couple with a 5830... you'd be lucky to get 1 a week with 90mhash.

It's a bug with 6 series cards and openCL. If you have a 5 series you can mine and game and run flash all without any issue, other than slightly lower performance. -f120 will minimize the performance penalty.

If you try to play a 3d game while mining on a 6970 or similar, your computer will lockup. If anyone has a fix for this I'd love to hear it.

Why create botnets on the sly with malware when people will willingly do it for the chance to earn a BTC here or there?

I think it is utterly brilliant and a reminder, yet again, that the world is full of people who are crazy amounts more brilliant than my genetics and education could have ever amounted to.

For good or evil, and I think we all know how these things pan out when computers and the internet are involved :sneaky:, the scheme itself is world-class brilliant.

Yeah... this is more of a P&N type discussion, but it's a bit unnerving knowing that the bitcoins that we're mining will probably end up being brought by some wealthy pothead who doesn't want to be seen getting his stash from a dealer downtown.

Sounds pretty harmless to me. Unless of course, your problem is with the distribution of wealth/power instead of the pot head.

Don't really get this argument. Are you unnerved knowing that the USD you earn at your real job may have been involved in cocaine deals? or that they will be in the future?

Are drug deals going to stop happening without BTC? Are there really a bunch of people who are buying drugs because of BTC?

Personally, and I say this from past experience, I would be more worried about a BTC transaction that had to be handled through US mail than having my regular trusted* pot dealer stop by the house with an order.

Are you using Sapphire Trixx? If not, use that.

One of my XFX 5830s (version 1.3) is the same way. Under windows using MSI afterburner the minimum memory speed is 500 mhz.

Under Linux and catalyst 11.6 and SDK2.1 I can crank it down to below 300 (though I've found 335 is the sweet spot for hashing). With 11.5 I had the same 500 mhz lower limit as well.

Also undervolted to 1.060 volts at 900 mhz on both cards. Been running great for a week at those settings. I figure 281 Mhash/sec is good enough, it's not worth juicing up to get another 16 Mhash/sec/card at the cost of more voltage and heat. I may try creeping the voltage down again, see just how low I can go!

Why don't you just leave it at higher than 500 Mhz? I doubt the temperatures are that much higher with it at its normal 1000 Mhz
