any pool recommendations for US residents?

notroll.in is best always for US or EU (they have a server in both locations).

Stay away from my LTC tho :O.

Need to mine back my principal..........

apparently the LTC rise or bubble or whatever it is is due to a very strong rumor that mt.gox will start trading LTC soon.

It was going up even before that rumor came out, so its just fuel to the already accelerating fire.

I have solo mined 150 bytecoins in the last hour.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=164569.0

Almost certainly just a silly joke of a currency, but I wanted to do this as an experiment to see what it's like to actually solo mine when it is viable and see how BTC might have been back in the early days. And maybe in 10 years bytecoins will be worth $1 each

I have the opportunity to sell my primary 7950 gaming card to a friend and upgrade that card to a 7970. Any comments on the current crop of 7970's, with low noise (overclocked) being the top priority?

Honestly, I've been using a reference 7970 non-GE and don't find it in the least bit noisy. Okay, only when I crank up the fan speed to 55-60% when mining

Switching over to litecoin is not working for me. All 4 of my 79XX cards show over 500 KH/s each in cgminer, but the pool stats only show about 15 KH/s for each card. This has happened with 2 pools so the problem has to be on my end. Any ideas?

Looks like the 2 most trusted pools, notroll.in and litecoinpool.org are getting DDoSed hardcore.

Only Coinotron seems up at full speed right now.

Can you post the settings you're using?

you are mining with the cpu not the gpu at the pool level. my guess not sure. take my guess as meh as I have not been able to set up a single working lite coin gnu. I do recall in my google readings that some people had the problem that they were cpu mining not Gpu mining.

Yes, get this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814202008

I've had about 4 7970s come through my hands for mining. That one, even at 100% fan speed is *so* quiet that I can keep it in my bedroom and sleep with it.

If quiet is your priority, you won't do better than that. Even the Gigabyte Windforce is twice as loud as it is.

I got my 7790 today. It's the real deal, the numbers from tom's are legit.

This is pure stock just using the same settings I used on my old 5830 card, it's probably possible to increase significantly with optimizations and overclocking-

Note that cgminer didn't get close to these results, might be some bug involved or a setting I needed to use.

Power usage, measured from the wall, increases by about 38W while mining.

In my crowded Dell XPS 8500 case, it's running at a cool 58C at full load with no increased fan settings.

For comparison purposes, my old 5830 ran at 70C, did about the same or slightly less MH/sec (stock, I know I could have done more with overclocking), and used about 110W at full load. Next gen AMD cards are awesome miners, it's just too bad that the time of ASIC is almost upon us.

I'll do some additional testing and see how it does overclocked, since it's running so cool and using such little power I'd be shocked if I couldn't get some more hashing out of it.

FYI, initial test at mining litecoin was a total failure, seeing like 7kh/sec, obviously my configuration is all wrong but I'm not sure how to optimize it.

Try running reaper. I had a similar issue with cgminer.

Also, I use the new GUIminer beta, it seems to work well: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=150331.0

Ah! This works with my 7790.

Using the 7770 defaults, I'm getting 222kh/s. Interestingly power usage is higher than it was while bitcoin mining, about 58W above my idle usage. The GPU is running at a cool 59C, still indicating room for some overclocking.

yeah it uses a lot more memory to do lite coins. i just hooked mine up for bit coin. i have the 7790 1gb oc sapphire version. i am pulling 114 watts for the entire pc. with 1200 clock and mining at 300 hash.

if i turn the mining off this pc drops to 50 watts used. so 65 watts gets me 300 hash. this is as high as msi after burner goes . the temp is 64c the fan is 48% . 300 hash is darn good for bitcoin. Tomorrow I wil f around and try to get litecoins to run.

three of the ones below run about 470 usd and will crush a 7970 at mining. you will get 900 hash vs 650 hash just a bit more power for the 3x 7790 say 240 watts vs 225 watts for the 7970.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814202029 this hashes at 300 and 1200 MHz core. 800Mhz memory settings using msi afterburner.

BTW fast cash is paying 112usd for a bitcoin

I got the same card I think. You can clock the core up to 1300mhz using msi afterburner, where I was seeing 315MH/sec, but started seeing artifacts. 1250 seemed stable at around 295MH/sec. If you are getting 300MH/sec at 1200mhz, you probably have your settings optimized better than me. Or were you using diablominer? I haven't tried that yet, been using guiminer. cgminer gives terrible results for some reason.

Oddest thing, I got the best kh/sec (222) mining litecoins at stock. Every time I tried to OC and mine litecoins, I got worse results, not sure why.

Im pretty new to bitcoin mining but i have ran into some trouble with guiminer. I am mining in the eclipseus pool and i use an opencl miner. Whenever i get the long poll: new block message in the console window my hash rate goes from 500 m/hash to xxx k/hash and stays down in the k/hash range till i stop and start it again. I have searched everywhere for an answer to this but can't find one. I am running 1 AMD 7950 and i have the computer plugged into my tv for a display at the moment. Any help would be great thank.

also i see that my gpu usage goes to 0 after long poll:new block

Any reason to mine Litecoins? I'm making about the same USD a day using current exchange rates.

Have you tried overclocking the ram, but leaving the core at stock? I haven't tried LTC mining yet, but what I've read suggests that memory speed is very important.

The 7790's sound interesting, but once the price is considered, all interest is lost. The 7850 just seems better positioned.
