Girls didn't like it, can't argue with the bosses. I'd rather have sold more coins and gotten another card and moved the 7950s to 24/7 mining but it worked out well either way.

Well after waking up the PC is still going strong. My error rate is 3.x%. By reading around between 1 and 5 is normal.

But boy is this thing loud. I am tempted to put my 6950 in crossfire mode and giving that a try. I see some good hash rates for them(single card) but would it double in crossfire?

I know one of them unlocks by just flipping the bios switch, i might try to unlock the other via flashing.

If that works, i can build another rig of old parts i have and put the 290 in the basement .

Is just too loud.

The 290s Newegg supposedly sold me on Nov 30th still haven't gotten to fedex yet.

They obviously sold me cards they didn't have.

I'd give them a call. The sapphire 290 I oredered on the 5th is on the truck for delivery as of 8am this morning. Wish I had gotten it friday but oh well.

Wait a minute, just reading through the last couple pages of this thread, are kidding me, can a single 5850 actually make money after paying for electricity? What!?

I have an HD 5850 just laying around on a desk, and I have an HD 7950 card in a computer that stays turned off most of the time. Would it make sense to start mining by throwing that 5850 into a computer with 4 GB of ram, and then install a litecoin miner thing on my 7950 rig (also 4 GB of ram)? I'm an idiot when it comes to litecoin, but supposedly it's not ruined by ASIC miners somehow, so even a 5850 can make money after electricity costs???

Dif is 19, will put 20 tomorrow and see. But it was crashing before at 20.

I'm trying this with my XFX 290 flashed to 290x

I used the default generated script from WeMineLTC.com to get started at least.

My output is weak at around 540 KH/s currently....Showing in cgminer3.7.2

Tried playing around with the script and saw the WIn8.1 blue screen of sadness for the 1st time....Didn't even know it had one.

I kind of like the able to surf web with some responsiveness still.

Any pointers on script settings for when I'm not using the rig at the same time?

Difficulty spiked to 2694 overnight. Projected to increase to 2957 in ~3 days.

What this means is it has already DOUBLED since the spike in LTC prices, and therefore any "profit" is HALVED, and will continue to shrink in the very near future.

I know, this is getting ridiculous.

It's actually worse than that, because the craze started when they were $48.

I'm going to assume it will get bad enough with so many new miners just trying to make a buck they'll keep the price low selling as they mint coins. At least for awhile.

If I was still doing it I'd be planning a LONG haul of holding. Basically waiting for the price to get pushed up by increased diff causing higher payouts to be required for continued profits.

Could be wrong though

And behold, I'm paying $0,28 for electricity.

Yeah had the bsos a few times, also everytime i quite cgminer it does it.

So after some BF4 this morning i tried to run cgminer and crashed computer again. After restart it worked but was getting crappy khs so i hit q and crash. Did that a few times, change some settings and after a while it seem to settle into the 600khs. But also notice my gpu hz was also sitting in the 600s.

I had target temperature at 86 since last night. Well i raised that to 95 and bam, clock went up and khs are high 700 to low 800. Will let the gpu run hot for a bit and come back to tune it to 86 again and see if it holds clock. I think ccc really wants to have the gpu at 95 and it thinks something is wrong and will pull the clock back. Didn't do it last night.

Maybe when litecoins crash really badly in near future it will be a good idea to buy some, and wait for next spike.

If using high intensity you may need to reboot inbetween gaming and mining, or let the PC "settle" for a while.

Using intensity of 13 on my 7950s and I have no issue, 19 (ie: overnight) and BF3 used to crash when I'd launch it immediately after mining.

Funny thing is I get 600 kh/s per card with intensity set at 19, meanwhile I get 550 kh/s with it set to 13, and to boot I get a responsive PC and no quirks when switiching to gaming.

Speaking of intensity, I realized 20 makes graphic driver crash unexpectedly and randomly in my case. Going down to 18 didn't really lower my hash rate at all, but I gained stability.

Intensity shouldn't always give you more hash rate, I'm mining on a 280x with intensity @ 13 with 740-750kh/s.
Also shouldn't the value of LTC rise with the increased difficulty?

Other way around. Difficult increases as value increases.

Anyone able to tell me if i put two 6950 in crossfire to mine back in my pc will be equal or better than my single 290?

The 290 is way too loud. I want to put it in the basement and build a pc around it.

300-400 per card, so figure between 7950 and 290 performance. However, remember the power cost, the 69xx series were quite hungry, and from what I remember of my non-ref twin fan 6970, it got very loud mining LTC.

Same here. 19 is the highest I am able to go without crashing, but 19 is super unresponsive and gives lower hashrate than 18. 17 or 18 is usually the sweet spot for my 7870s and 7790s but it does make desktop use fairly laggy.

6950s should not be crossfired for mining, or any other cards for that purpose. Two 6950s should give you higher hashrates than a single 290. 6950s go from 400-500kH/s per card which is roughly what a 290x tops out at if you are lucky enough to keep the temps under control.

Mmmmmm. Might give this a try.

I was getting BSOD every time I quit cgminer, but only when I used the .conf file for settings. Once I switched to the .bat file to run it, I no longer get the BSOD.

20 intensity also was unstable for me on the 7850. 19 seems to work. 18 I get about 5 more khash's though.

I started this stuff a few days ago. I was able to make .2 litecoins but the shit crashed my GPU so many times.

I'm using the guiminer or whatever its called and just picking my GPU out of the list.

There's got to be a better way to do this without ruining my stuff.

I might just stick to the traditional "Get a job and make money there" thing. This Coin thing seems hella stupid.

If you're getting repeated crashes, your stuff was broken to begin with. A video card should remain stable even if it is run at 100% utilization constantly. If cgminer crashes it, then in all likelihood other stress tests such as FurMark would do the same.

What kind of video card do you have? What cooler does it use? How is your case ventilation? Does GPU-Z show the GPU or VRMs overheating before a crash?
