Not sure how it is being done, but Kittehcoin has shot up over .000001 BTC once again today. Remarkable since it was in the doldrums for so long.

OK, got my rig with a 6850 hitting it. Which exchange do you use for them?

coinmarket.io - but fair warning, as of last night coinmarket.io went down with a security issue. They're working on fixing whatever it is, but I have no idea when it will be back online.

Actually they updated just a little while ago - they have been manually sending out withdrawals from cold wallets this morning which has been slowing them down. They said they are going to bring the site back up AFTER they have source code to show for a fix as well. They're serious about being serious. I hope they do well, they look like they're going to be a pretty decent exchange.

So what's the best OFFLINE wallet to use nowadays? I see bitcoin-qt, electrum, multibit, armory...not sure which one to use.

Well, I've gone and set up a pool. Nobody will probably care since it's for KlondikeCoin, but if anyone wants to jump on (I've been getting a little over ~100 KDC per day with 1.2MHash/s which at this morning's exchange rates was netted me about 0.023 btc)...

Feel free to throw some hashes at my server. Even if you want to just help me test it out for a little while.

Email verifications are enabled for everything, so if you don't get an email in a timely manner, check your spam folder.

Assuming everything ends up working properly with this pool, I'll slowly start adding other coin pools over the next few weeks.

Giving your pool a try now.

I was about to install multibit, but got a message that I needed to install java. Oh well. i just bit the bullet and installed the full bitcoin-qt wallet, and let it download the entire blockchain. My hard drive has lots of space to store all those gigabytes so i didn't mind, but apparently there are some nifty features you can get with other wallets, but I have no idea what they are and the plain vanilla wallet works for me.

I'm curious to know how much effort it was to set up a pool. I've heard stories from it being about as hard as installing windows, to people pulling their hair out with stress.

P.S. I'm feeling very lonely on this pool.

P.P.S. I have no idea what a klondike is, but KDC is surprisingly profitable (at least in theory).

Not just USA. Ever since Gox were done for money laundering, no banks will touch them.

If you live in Japan, you get get withdrawals in Yen, but foreigners can't open Japanese bank accounts.

Some withdrawals are making it out to Europe. However, small withdrawals in Euro are taking about 6-12 weeks, and withdrawals over about 1000 Eur are taking 6 months+.

I've heard reports that some people are waiting upwards of 4-5 days for BTC withdrawals on Gox, so beware. It just seems like that exchange is going to implode at some point - I don't know why people keep trading there, to be honest...

What is happening with TAGcoin? Coinwarz says:
Warning: The blockchain for this coin is currently having issues. Waiting on a fix from the coin development team.

Anyone have a clue?

Momentum, biggest exchange for BTC is biggest. I thought it was just the US that didn't use mtgox because they're not able to make withdrawals to their banks from there.

Hmm, it's not the biggest anymore, at least going by -

Bitstamp has more than twice the volume. Anyway, the trading fees on mtgox are lower if you have a lot of BTC though, so maybe that's why.

There is a bug in the PoS forging code. This is resulting in massive blockchain reorganizations with transactions failing after dozens of confirmations, and miners having blocks orphaned after hundreds of confirmations.

A patch has been released. While many big pools are running the patch, in order to avoid even more blockchain chaos, the patch is time-delayed and will not activate until 1st February.

It's surprisingly easy/hard. :sneaky:

Depends on how you look at it honestly. I have an amazing capacity for research, and have actually been looking into setting up a pool for the better part of the last couple months. I much prefer being behind the scenes setting up infrastructure and whatnot so I've learned how and where to look for information on stuff like this in rapid fashion. Plus being a software dev myself and having had to cobble stuff together from really poor documentation in the past, this is second nature to me.

It's a lot of:
- How well you know linux
- How much lack of documentation you can tolerate (though it's gotten a lot better in the last month)
- How much about the moving parts you already understand (in terms of bitcoin and derivatives)

If you can set up a secure LAMP server, that's about half of it. Secure is a big part of it since these things are a huge target with a bullseye painted on them. A big successful pool will have a lot of coins flowing through them.

The next part is the actual pool software. The popular package out there has gotten a lot better documentation and support over the last month. There's still a bunch of gotchas, but if you can admin a linux box, you should be able to work your way around them.

That said... cron jobs ARE working properly now (had to work around an issue with how I have my server set up). Automatic payouts, stat updates, etc, should all just plain work now without me having to run them manually.

Sounds like a pain in the ass if you're not a dev. This is a modern day gold rush though. Anyone that has set up an even remotely successful pool or exchange is rolling in the BTC, but as you said they are targeted so much. Which is why we always see these sites go down.

Doge profitability down.... thinking of trying middlecoin again.... didn't work well for me in the past.
