The only other okay exchange is CoinedUp, but all the traffic went to Cryptsy since it was listed..

At current rates, 2x R290 mine like 0.1 or 0.125 BTC A DAY. Sadly i cannot get it to bloody work ... keep getting error cannot find device ID..

I think a lot of miners are realizing their days are numbered with these ASIC prototypes coming through, we probably only have a few months left before mass shipment (might not to the public, but developers will hoard it and mine the crap out for a few months before releasing to preordered customers, exactly what happend during early last year for BTC!). Gotta get on board altcoins that cannot be ASIC mined.

Or not. Holy DDoS batman! I've got four pools setup as failover and ALL are down. Going to leave one machine on VTC and revert the rest to DOGE.

There is flat out just too many coins. It's really been that way for over a year, but good god. I don't even care that I missed VTC... It's just, every single one of these coins, no matter how legit they appear or their actual technical advantages are irrelevant because the markets (us) are all just trying to get money off of them in the short term anyways.

It's all just speculative panic buying and selling. There IS money to be made daytrading.... yet I know that I shouldn't be intellectually or emotionally be vested at all.

One thing I'm very happy I did was stop worrying about mining the most profitable and just mine the most profitably STABLE coin. I'll continue to do so, but I'm cashing out the majority of my holdings to USD right now. I'd rather have the cash. I don't care if I'm wrong because I'm already considerably ahead. *shrug*

might be happening already. pools are seeing huge spikes in hashing power and there are asic scrypt miners in existence, however slow they may be right now.

only 420 KH/s? mine gets 820 KH/s stock

He's talking about Vertcoin pretty sure. Hash is halved on this particular algorithm.

Launching today at 7:30 GMT, 2:30 EST (all PM)

I'll give this a go but I'm gonna be home too late to hop on asap

Does anyone know if I'm able to mine CPU (a CPU based coin) and a GPU (dogecoin) at the same time?

Yeah, you should be able to. You'll just be running a CPU mining program and a GPU mining program at the same time, such as cpuminer and cgminer. The coin client can also do CPU mining.

I'll be working on getting a VertCoin pool up and running for you guys - assuming anyone bothers to jump on it. I have the bulk of it set up already, I just need to get a few things tweaked and it will be up and running.

Anyone look at Vert coin. Looks like a safe bet against Asics, but it's #@$#@ to mine. Might just be the successor to LTC.

Was still a little late to the party and sold 100VTC like a doofus cheap but managed to hold on the rest

It is getting incredibly hard to mine this coin. Plus it really pushes your GPUs to the limit so please don't OC or use high intensities if you value your cards.

Peeps have been pushing their 290s and are ending up with artifact cards. Use 24550 as TC and I of 17 not more.

Lost a night of mining VTC. I boarded this ship WAY too late. Got only 1 VTC since 7pm EST last night. At this rate, I'm going back to FOX.

Net hash doubled since last night. Very soon this coin will not be profitable to mine unless price goes even higher.

When I first heard about this coin I brushed it off as another "alt" then tried to mine it and got a boat load of rejects, hardware errors you name it.

Spent freaking half a night to get it to work since it was the most profitable coin at that time to mine.

Lo and behold that thing takes off. Someone sold 1800 for peanuts. Glad I am not that guy

Plus pools have been a bit dodgy with lot of downtimes, one pool almost reached 50% of hashing power before the fix was implemented. So can't say this coin has been easy to mine.

A lot of speculation and the developer hasn't been active since then. Starting to feel more like a pump and dump.

Multiple users are reporting busted cards, and I've seen some weird artifacts on my 290.
I can't tell if it was the game or the card that caused it (yeah I game while mining, mostly the good 2D stuff )

Seeing your card artifacting is like catching your gf with another man.
Once you've seen it there is no erasing it from your mind

So does your GPU need to be connected to a monitor to see it artifacting? Or is it visible even if you remote or VNC in?

It's connected to my LCD.
Granted I've seen it only in this one game (Prison Architect), and my bet is on the game itself, but the damage (+3 PSY dmg LOL) is done
And now these reports of busted cards...

I'm building a gaming computer.. If I get (3) 290s, and mine with them.. Will they ever pay off? What would monthly electricity usage be?

3 290s is about 2.4Mh/s. Avg is about 0.01 Btc/mh per day so you would be making 0.024 BTc/day

So probably about 3-4 months to pay it off.

Someone correct me if my calc is wrong

update: 2- 3 months to pay it off, if you paid $400 for each card

That's an overly optimistic calculation that doesn't factor in continuous exponential difficulty increases and a reduction of profitability that would result. Nor the continuous volatility in prices of whatever scrypt or N-factor coin you would mine.

Best to buy for gaming first, then treat any "profit" you make back as gravy. Payoff could be 2 months if he's lucky but it could also be never.

It took me about a 10 weeks to break even on my $1k video card investment. But I would definitely be reluctant to invest another $1k into GPUs at this stage.
