Out of curiosity, does mining any of these cryptocoins actually bother to do anything useful in the technical sense, or is it all just meaningless junk calculations to generate funny money?

I feel like cryptocurrency would have a little more clout behind it if, say, participating in Folding@home paid out a cryptocurrency. At least then you'd be helping cure terrible diseases instead of pouring electricity into financial speculation.

I have a 4670k so it should be similar to yours.

Here is what is in my startup .bat file:
yam.exe --config yam-pts.cfg

And in the yam-pts.cfg file I have:
threads = 3
mining-params = pts:av=0&m=512
mine = xpt2h://userass@mining.ypool.net:10034:8080:8081:8082:8083:8084:8085:8086:8087/pts
#proxy = socks4a://127.0.0.1:9150
compact-stats = 1
print-timestamps = 0

I moved the yam.exe file to the same directory as the yam-pts.cfg file. And I took out the lines referencing the other pools since I only have an account at ypool. Only other change I made was to make it 3 threads instead of 4. Change userass to whatever yours is at ypool.

Also, how much ram is in your system? I have 16gb on this comp and I think it makes a difference how much you have because there it is set to use 512mb per thread so mine is using 1.5GB of ram right now.

Thanks for the help!

I got it working now!

Using 6 threads on my 4770k with 512mb per thread. I only have 8GB of RAM. Getting 480 CPM right now but I have AV tuning going on so that may change. However, I still cannot get huge pages to work so that will probably significantly impact my performance.

Yes, check Primecoin for example.

Primecoin is meh... Difficulty keeps going up while the BTC:XPM value continues to go down There is also an extremely small demand for Primecoin which could be part of the issue. I have been mining it for about 3 months now on and off, I made 0.1 BTC during the first 6 weeks or so when I sold 25XPM which is not bad. However, even though I have added multiple rigs, my XPM income continues to stagnate and even decline.

What miner and pool are you using? I'll be honest with my GPU's I have only tried 1GH's miner and of course their pool. I've only been seeing 1-1.1k with 7950's @ 1100/1500.
I'm at ypool using the CLPTS miner.

1024 setting works here, are you using the latest "M" version of the miner? Huge pages has made a significant increase for me ~75cpm. Also your CPU has AVX instruction set, make sure you are using the right version and AV setting.

I am using the version for Haswell so it should be using the AVX instructions?

KlondikeCoin will be officially forking in the next few days. One of the things on the table will be a lower block reward to bolster the coin's market value.

That means mine it or buy it NOW.

Just sayin'.

I've been mining for some hours on fast OpenCL PTS-miner for AMD. The thing is hardcoded to beeer.org and I've been mining with the Bitshares-PTS address yet I've received nothing and you can't check any stats on beeer.org except paid stats. It seems like a scam, what do you guys think? I don't know if I should waste any more time trying. The miner is hard-coded so the guy can collect his % and his buddies pool can collect their share and they don't even let you know how much you are collecting. My rates been ~8000 cpm.

DOGE went from a high of 280 satoshi to the now current 190 satoshi. I doubt KlondikeCoin's value will increase unless it gets a serious pump.

Beeer has been around since the beginning, not a scam. Keep an eye on this thread for updates on the Beeer pool.

https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=234.0

You can also try other pools such as YPool or 1GH. Difficulty has gone through the roof in the last few weeks so don't expect 10 PTS a day. Also remember anyone who holds PTS will receive ~1.2x BitShares once launched hopefully next month. At the time of the snapshot on 2/28 only ~1.5m/2m PTS will be mined thus why you receive more BTS.

They have nearly instant updates, so you will easily be able to keep track of your earnings.

5% pool fee.

I've been mining on there.

It takes a long time to get the first payout on beer's pool. They only payout after .2 pts. I'm using the opencl pts miner currently.

Yep, beer is legit, but they have auto payouts. For instance, I have to wait to pass 3 XPM to get my primecoin payouts.

Most coins after a forced fork like this get a relatively short-lived "price adjustment". I have been rather vocal against it because long-term it does nothing for the coin, the value will plummet and we'll end up with a whole new set of pissed off people with worthless coins and even less people mining. But hey, if you have them now, you'll be able to dump them.

Doge had a block halving - which has been proven to do nothing to coin values. Completely different.

Question for you guys. I've got 4 270's running on my rig using CGWatcher to run Kalroth's version of CGminer. If I want to play some BF4, is there a way to run the game on one of my 270s and leave the other 3 to continue mining?

I switched over to CleverMining on the 19th and they have been very reliable so far. Funny thing is that MiddleCoin finally caught up and sent me another payment on the 23rd, so the admin there is at least putting *some* effort into keeping the pool alive.

I'm going to stick with CM though because I like to see those consistent daily payouts. Every .01 adds up.

Been mining Blackcoin for fun. It went live last night. Similar to Mintcoin

Same. Can only mine it for 6 more days it's not like you can waste too much if it doesn't go anywhere. I think MINT have kicked off some temporary "PoW first then PoS only" mining craze. It's amazing how difficult this coin has become to mine ALREADY and it's not even a day in. I've been mining it since launch and it was never easy to mine. I only managed to solo 1 block. Since then I've mined maybe another 25,000 coins.

You can disable one of the cards through cg miner through GPU management then enable/disable. Disable the one which you want to game on and plug your monitor into it.

Thanks for the tip.

I threw some BTC at it... got about 500 KDC... hope it sticks if you know what I mean :sneaky:

I can already sell it for a 30% profit, but I'm gonna wait for at least 50-75%.

Bitcoin is down to ~$538 on news that the Mt.Gox head honcho resigned from the Bitcoin Foundation. It's ridiculous that this idiot can still cause so much damage; surely everyone should have realized by now that what is locked up in Mt.Gox is most likely lost forever, and just write it off and move on (or sue the perpetrators in court).

Meanwhile, DOGE is down to ~190 satoshi. Not a good couple of days for cryptocurrencies. I think I'm going to exchange 50K of my ~75K DOGE for BTC when it goes back over 200, then hold the BTC until this nonsense with Mt.Gox all blows over.

Well that and... one person dumped 10,000 BTC on stamp last night at $595. That's like 6 million of liquidity taken out of the market. The price has fallen to where I'd expect it after a dump of that scale.

Thinking about taking Sunny's advice and solo'ing Klondike but it sure doesn't look like the devs have there crap together looking at the bitcoin talk thread.

But hell, all the cryptos are down right now. I guess I'm finally giving up on MAX. It is now below some other coins listed on coinwarz.com. Guess I rode that horse as far as I could.

MAX is still mostly in line with the other top coins on conwarz...depending on when you look and/or refresh the page. It's definitely not what it was a week or two ago. It's still my go-to coin for mining while using the computer since it has much less impact on computer performance. I will definitely miss MAX if it continues dropping.
