I'm about to play Crysis and I was wondering mods I should get?

I don't want to edit actual game play however. This becomes a problem because a lot of places that recommend mods don't say what the mods do or explain it well so it's hard to figure out. I almost installed the Immersive mod before I found out that it increased weapon damage and removed other things. I don't want to change game play, I just want to change how the game looks for the better, aka more realistic lighting and better textures.

I know Rygel's has the best texture mod, but what texture mods are compatible and what lighting mods should I look at?

Thanks in advance!

You can start here:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2290411

You might have trouble locating mod files now, though. I only started working on this about a year or so ago (didn't have a PC capable of running the game back when it came out), and had a bear of a time tracking some of them down -- a lot of links in pages you'll search for will be dead now, but I think if you persevere you should be able to find them.

Why would I want mods to make the textures nude? There is porn...
http://www.overclock.net/t/1014933/a-guide-to-crysis-mods-56k-warning

I use the Xtreme Chaos mod. when you blow stuff up, you REALLY blow stuff up!

Gimme a little bit of credit I obviously found that guide brah.

Problem is, I don't know which mods are compatible with which, especially the texture ones.

Ok, read that other thread linked here, still having a hard time picking out which ones I need to make the game overall look better. I have the texture mod currently I'm going to look for a couple others. I wish I could figure out whether I'm over writing rygel's texture mod when I add in an HD Grass mod or a HD rocks mod or whatever. I'm assuming hte lighting mods are separate from textures.

You generally want other texture mods to overwrite Rygel's pack. You do this by placing it later in the load order by adding "z" to the beginning of the file name.

I wrote that little guide at the end of that thread.....just look at my screen captures for an example of where the files should sit regarding load order.

FWIW, I don't like HD Grass.

If you want something really simple that totally changes the appearance of the game in a major way, just download something like "Crysis Expanded."

Beware though, it's very hard to fun. The guy added tons of particle effects and added vegetation.

I still prefer the mod list I laid out in that thread for a good, general overhaul, and it runs pretty much as well as vanilla Crysis or better.

I'm not sure what to do in some parts of it and I actually SAW this guide on toms I was just confused and didnt' read well haha.

When I go to the Localized Folder, should I then head into VIDEO and delete that? Or do I delete EVERYTHING in the Localized folder?

Otherwise that helps clarify and fix up some shiit I was doing wrong clearly lol. Thanks for that guide though, I've been using it I just skipped over some vital parts... Probably shouldn't have lol.

Edit2: huge problem, when I rotate my head all things change and go weird. Particularly Leaves an the ground. It's as if some shadows or something are only working when I move my head. Phucking weird as shiit. I removed all files and it still happens I dunno why this is going on. Everything is ok. Second I start moving, things instantly get darker. Not the road though, but dirt on the sides of the road and the leaves get darker. Really distracting.

I think I got the mods to work. My problem is that my visuals change when I move. VAnilla or not, when I pan the cam at all, visuals instantly darken.

Did you install a TOD mod, e.g. Real Lifesis? I think that I ran into this quirk also, and if I remember correctly that was what caused it (but I haven't played this in a while, so my recollection might not be good).

It was this thing where you'd pan the camera and the brightness would momentarily drop, then when you stop panning/moving it returns to where it was originally.

I'm going to guess this has something to do with the Quality Mod install.

If I were you, I would delete the entire install, including the files created at ...\Documents\My Games\Crysis\ and start over with a vanilla install.

Install one mod at a time and launch the game after every one. This can save you a bunch of time because when one mod doesn't work, you know exactly which one to uninstall.

I'm personally not a big fan of the Quality Mod (or any mod that introduces depth-of-field effects). At least he gives you the options to turn it off.

I prefer simply to use the CUDAATS ToD.

Time-of-Day is Crytek's strange way of describing a huge set of attributes you can alter in the SDK to change nearly every visual aspect of the game.

(really......under the menu object it pulls up a dizzyingly large array of things that totally alter visual experience. Color balances, SSAO values, sharpening, depth of field, sky and horizon percentages and colors, fog colors and percentages....on and on and on.....So you can see why a good ToD is so important.)

I guess I'll do that. Damn this sucks.

I dunno what ToD mod I installed.

The Crysis Extreme Quality Mod was simply an autoconfig file. Didn't know that could do that much harm.

???

You must be referring to a different "Quality Mod" than I was thinking of (which is a big mod that adds "bullet time" and all kinds of stuff) If it's just an autoexec file then that isn't going to do what you're describing.

When you installed the Global Ambient POM mod, did you delete the appropriate files afterwards?

Shadercache.pak and shaders folder? Yes

http://www.crydev.net/viewtopic.php?t=31242 is the Crysis Extreme Quality Mod I'm talking about.

Simply an autoconfig thingy

Fresh install and STILL having this problem. Jesus this is frustrating.

Never said it wasn't haha... This is my first AMD card in 10 years I think. Already was pissed that to run Crisis in 1080p/60hz you need to make a separate profile that isn't actually 1080p(this isn't enabled right now as I troubleshoot), instead o just forcing the card to always be 1080p/60hz like Nvidia.

I'll try uninstalling all graphics drivers I guess? I haven't dealt with anything other than Nvidia since I used my laptop for gaming and that was just one driver to DL.

Even when I go into catalyst control it shows 7900 series instead of 7950 which really just annoys me.

Yup.

So anyway, tried to look into this some more. It turns out, I get this error on Awakening. I tried it on another map though and did NOT notice it at all. So maybe this was limited to that map only. Not sure, very disappointing. I'm guessing I wont' see it with new games thouhg.
Edit:
I still notice it nevermind. Just is more apparent with mods on. Hopefully not a big deal. I'll be switching to Nvidia next generation anyway so I'll go back and test this game again later and see if I have the same problem. Surprised only me and one other person have gotten/noticed this.

I hate be the one to ruin your day, but I'm seeing this issue on Nvidia cards here. :|

Have we discussed whether this is the Steam or non-Steam version of Crysis?

edit: I'm playing the Steam version -- I reinstalled back to vanilla, and have no sky blooming. I'm testing right at the beginning, just before you go down to take out the radar jammer, and daylight starts to break -- when I had mods in place, I had noticable sky blooming at this spot. Going to try adding mods one by one to see which one causes it to occur.

Edit: just for grins, try either disabling motion blur in your autoexec and system files (r_MotionBlur=0) or setting it to 3.

rygel's textures are the same resolution as vanilla textures. the only difference is that he ran them through a sharpening filter and added more saturation. i was under the impression that his textures were some new 4096x4096 sized textures and was very disappointed to see that they weren't, just a heads up.
