Crysis 2 Demo is out!

lot's of fun elements and the maps are very well thought out, genius almost.

You just don't know what to expect. Do they have armor on? NV on? Can they see me? What suit mods do they have? There's a lot of mods that can be done so you never know what advantage someone has.

Look, I enjoyed the MP a decent amount as well... but you're making quite the large deal about what's basically the same as perks in CoD. They took perks and amplified the hell out of them because you're in a nano suit, which is cool but nothing really that special.

Well, I'm not trying to say it's the best game ever made. I think it's fun though, and that's what they were going for. I think were most people are creating unneccessary dissapointment is in that they were expecting Crysis 2 to be as groundbreaking as Crysis 1, visually, and from the beginning, CryTek said that's not the direction they were pushing this time. And I still think the people who say it looks like crap, especially on hardcore, are crazy and trolling. It looks awesome.

so you actually like the blur in the game? i've NEVER understood the point in that. and yes, you have been on the band wagon about it being the best game ever.

I think the Engine is the best.. My favorite game is probably WOW, Bioshock, or Stalker. I certainly like Crysis 1, but I won't claim it to be the best game. I really do like the CryEngine, and I think Crytek is a very awesome company. Far Cry was epic! I wish for a true successor to Far Cry, and I'm really excited about City Interactive having licensed CE3 for Sniper2. Sniper 1 was a 6.5/10 in my book, but I enjoyed it.

In regards to Crysis 2, I've only seen bits of the single player and played the MP demo, so the jury is still out imho.

Also, I've actually turned off the blur. I didn't like it either. I posted my config earlier in the thread. Modded FOV, no blur, no focused FOV when running, etc. Makes a world of difference.

Oh I agree. It will probably still be pretty entertaining overall. And I also agree that people are getting up in arms over the graphics when they're comparing MP to SP, DX9 to DX10, and a finished game to a demo. There's too many variables and apples to oranges comparisons here to take anybody in this thread seriously.

I wish I could find the article from several months ago talking about nVidia's investment into CryTek for custom DX11 integration into CryEngine and that it would require CryTek rewriting a lot of how the engine uses DX11. I have a feeling this is why there is going to be a delay in DX11 being available. Had they stuck to generic DX11, it might not be an issue. However, my guess is that it will be better in the long term because the DX11 performance will be better at least in regards to nvidia cards.

That and remember during a CryTek UK interview that they were talking about how they were trying really hard to balance performance and visuals. CrytekUK (formerly, free radical), only worked on MP and had nothing to do with the single player campaign. I think this is why you see some digitized textures on some of the maps in obscure areas. They were looking for every little way they could save memory. MP is not as dependent on graphics for immersion. Playability is more of a concern, especially when you still have lag to deal with.

So can anyone who pirated the alpha leak comment on how terrible this demo looks? Are these the graphics that the game is going to ship with? It reminds me of the last Wolfenstein (the most disappointing piece of shit ever).

Yeah, I figured out what having a mycrysis account is worthless. All you need to do is this a)create a random name (all letters is best) b)use some made up email address (doesn't matter cause you don't have to verify it), long as you have 'save login details' checked you won't have to bother with this again.

When did you try this? When the demo first dropped, gamespy got overwhelmed and crashed and burned. I think they have everything ironed out better because last night I didn't have any problems finding matches at all.

Have you tried the MP demo yet? I think it's pretty damn fun. Plays fast, looks good, runs particularly better than Crysis 1.

Don't fall for the auto aim hype, it doesn't apply to keyboard/mouse. It's only for controllers.

Yeah, it reminds me of Counterstrike with a nanosuit. I guess the respawning is different, but other than that it palys the same. Fun and all, but nothing new to me. And I haven't played a MP FPS since counterstrike in the early 00's. The graphics were really disappointing though.

If I liked COD, then I probably would enjoy this demo and probably will enjoy Crysis 2.

But like some of the hardcore First Person Shooter fans here... I built my new PC accumulating parts over 3 months in preparation to have a RIG to be able to enjoy Crysis 2 in all its full Eye Candy glory... Hoping directX11 and such would push it to its limits... if I knew that my old rig and old video card can play it just fine, I would not have built it and bought parts currently available so it "Can Play Crysis 2" or else I would've wait for new and better hardware or waited for deals... so I understand why some people are happy and some people are upset or disappointed - I'm part of the disappointed group... after spending all this money on my rig, I probably won't pick up Crysis 2 till it hits the bargain bin...in my opinion definately not worth my $60...

That's your own fault. Did you read any.... ANY of the press coming from Crytek during the entire development cycle of Crysis 2? They continuously said that their goal was to make C2 run better than C1. They even said it wouldn't have the graphical advancements to the market that C1 had. They specifically didn't want people to have to run out and build entirely new computers just to play their game. If you paid attention to the game, assumingly enough to want to build a new rig for it, you would have realized that if your machine could run Crysis 1 in full glory, then you had no reason to upgrade.

The negativity is almost crushing around here when it comes to certain subjects, Crytek is one of them. The game's getting a ton of heat and nobody is really nitpicking the actual gameplay - it's all the peripherals...

One thing I am definitely interested in is the support after release. When this game gets hacked, and it will be almost immediately, will the developer stay on top of it or let the game flounder a la Modern Warfare 2. That'll be huge...

One small note that I really like is how you need to pick up the enemies dogtags to build towards your killstreak. So sitting on top of a highrise and shooting enemies far below is good and all, but don't expect to get any killstreaks to boost you along. CoD should steal that one.

w/e now that i have the controls down, this demo is a blast.

have you played the single player campaign yet?

I was getting flustered a bit until i remapped a lot of the suit toggles to my mouse.. Now that I can compete, it's very fun and intense.

Of course I haven't played the single player yet. It's not out. I prefer not to illegally download stuff. They chose this as their representation of the game and majority says it blows. It's their fault for not giving us singleplayer if it's better.
