Crysis 2 leaked

Apparently a late developement build of Crysis 2 has gone up on certain sites, it includes the full game, including multiplayer. Really sucks for crytek.

This sucks for Crytek. Although my sympathy is limited when they abandoned the PC on the usual piracy excuse.

Good news is we are finally seeing actual shots of this game on the PC. Up to now it has been console bullshots with 16xAA slapped on.

It doesn't matter what a company's business practices or decisions are - pirating is wrong and sucks. If the company is bad, or the product is bad, the product should be completely avoided. Pirating is not justified just because someone's opinion does not coincide with the company or product in question.

This really sucks for PC gaming.

This was internally leaked from inside the company. It's not a normal case of a game getting pirated. This is a beta build that only someone quite high up would have had access to and the means to get it leaked.

I don't believe the leak came from an actual employee. It may be someone tied to an employee, maybe someone who was given access to an early build and took advantage of the situation behind Crytek's back but no employee of Crytek would, in their right mind, release a build that contains the entire game.

Well I guess we will get player reviews whether the game is good or not way ahead of time. This could work in favor to some degree to Crytek. If there are big problems with the game they don't see, like it just sucking or something else, then it can be addressed before release.

An employee at Ensemble Studios leaked Age of Empires 3. These companies have quite a few low level, lower paid, non vital workers who are stupid enough to do something like this.

Also, I find it interesting that multiplayer works (supposedly). I was under the impression all games these days required you to authenticate to play online.

Not good. Say what you want but crytek has been very good to the community with modding tools and what not.

With all that effort into the pretty, I am worried it may not be much fun to play.
I had a much better time with Far Cry than I did Crysis or Far Cry 2.

That just sent me back years ago during the whole "Half-Life 2 Alpha leak" stuff. I thought that ever since it happened to Valve that most other companies out there took the "example" and increased internal security, which I guess has been the case for most of them, but seeing a company like Crytek being the victim of something like that (and even worse considering it contains the entire game, including the multi-player) is very surprising (but so was the Half-Life 2's Alpha leak, and DOOM 3's Alpha leak as well).

I agree with the thought that the leak was done by an employee at Crytek, he/she (or perhaps they) might have even been paid by individuals to leak it, you know, some pirate who happens to know an employee at Crytek who could possibly access such a build and leak it, probably offered money if the employee would successfully leak "anything", the offer being much higher if the leak contains more data. I'm guessing that sometimes it has to happen, that some pirates out there do occasionally (or perhaps often) try to corrupt employees of certain development companies. But anyway, whether or not the leak was internal doesn't really matter to this point since it's now on the Internet, and it absolutely sucks for Crytek and all the time and efforts (and money) they put in developing Crysis 2 (and its engine).

This happened to Half Life 2 and caused them to push back the release date a looooong time. Hopefully this doesn't happen to Crysis 2.
